January/February

FOCUS:

Greetings from the Counseling Office. Counselors will be working with students on their Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAP) and class registration for next school year. Here is a snapshot of activities we will be doing with them throughout January-March.

  • Freshmen: Understanding high school transcripts and tracking graduation process

  • Sophomores: Multiple Intelligence survey to reveal students’ individual intelligence strengths and challenges, such as bodily-kinesthetic, musical, or interpersonal intelligences. At the end of each assessment, a personally tailored report identifies each student’s unique learning style and provides guidance on how to maximize learning potential.

  • Juniors: SuperMatch college search identifying three colleges that match future education and career goals. All juniors will take the Accuplacer test on January 25th to determine possible concurrent enrollment opportunities.

  • Seniors: Updating résumés, college acceptances, applying to scholarships and completing FAFSA

ATTENTION JUNIOR PARENTS: Are you ready for May 2020? There is a lot to do between now and then, and the Counseling Department is here to help guide you. We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to schedule a personal counseling appointment with you and your student. During these one-on-one meetings we will discuss your student's post-graduation plan. Regardless of whether your student has a post secondary plan or is uncertain of what they want to do, it is still important for us to meet. Counselors will be meeting individually with juniors starting in February through March, please contact your student’s counselor today for an appointment. Please note that for students with disabilities who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP), this appointment is usually not needed because the conversation typically occurs in the annual IEP review meeting.

SENIORS!!! Want to know the secret to getting your college education paid for??? It’s gonna blow your mind…. Ready? APPLY FOR AS MANY SCHOLARSHIPS AS YOU CAN!! February is the time to buckle down and focus on submitting as many scholarship applications as possible.
