Common App

Common App is an application platform that allows a student to apply to more than one college using a single application.

Students applying to college using the COMMON APP (any student applying to CU Boulder) must link their Naviance to their Common App. See Mr. Walsh for help!

THERE ARE PROS AND CONS TO APPLYING THIS WAY:

Pros

  • One application for multiple competitive schools

  • Don't need to fill out the same information over and over

  • Some schools only accept Common App - CU-Boulder, Colorado College

Cons

  • EXTENSIVE requirements (multiple essays)

  • Some schools ask for supplemental materials when a student uses Common App - may require an additional essay

  • Common App may require more information than some schools do on their own institutional application

  • Not all Schools use Common app - To check if the college you are interested in uses it, go to college search and type in the full name of the college, if it pops up, it does use Common App. If your college isn't on Common app, you will need to apply on the school's website

    • Example: University of Northern Colorado's institutional application does not require letters of recommendation or an essay. Students using Common App to apply to UNC have to submit both essay and letter of recommendation!
