Brookfield Central Girls Track and Field
First Day of Practice: Monday, March 9
Each day until we go outside for practice, we will meet in one of the gyms. Practice times each day will be from 3:30 to 5:30. There will be multiple occasions in which field events are held beyond our regular practice time.
ATHLETES WILL NOT COMPETE IN ALL SCHEDULED MEETS
Season rules and regulations:
At the beginning of the season, we have a no-cut policy, meaning everyone who comes out to practice is on the team. Track is a sport that will challenge you physically at times. If you want to participate in meets, you must be able to perform the workouts your coaches have designed.
On April 1, athletes will be removed from the roster if they are not regularly attending practice.
We very much encourage you and will strongly recommend events to you that the staff believes you will or potentially perform at the varsity level, or we believe you would enjoy and benefit from the event.
Meets:
There are meets listed as Varsity, JV, or both. Many of our athletes will be eligible to compete in any meet based on availability, training, and the chance to perform in different events.
Practice:
Our practice time is set to end at 5:30, but that does not mean we will train every day for the full practice time. Things such as form running drills, hurdle walkovers, injury prevention, team collaboration exercises, ice baths, rollers, stretching, yoga, bodyweight training, etc., will be part of the total practice experience. When your workouts or drills are completed, practice will always consist of a combination of these exercises.
Be prepared to practice inside and outside (I am a fan of workouts in 40 degree weather). Early in the season if the weather is poor (rain, sleet, wind chills below 32) we will be inside. Always have jackets, hats, gloves available for practice. Being unprepared is not an excuse.
Bring water for practice each day.
Excused absences from practices include medical, family, and academic issues only. Everyone on the team is granted one day off without any questions asked. Any unexcused absences can lead to non-participation in meets.
Meet attendance:
Athletes must remain at the meet until its completion (3200-meter and 4 by 4 runners need our support). If someone is not riding the bus home, we will need an excuse form available on the website. Possible early meet departures are for medical, family, and academic issues only.
Cell phones:
It is easy to look up results during meets, and we are certainly okay with that. Phones should not be used for communication with anyone other than family. Again, we are here to encourage and support each other. If there is noted abuse of this rule, it could result in non-participation in meets.
Meet entries:
When possible, meet entries and schedules will be sent to email or given out at practice. Bus departures are time-appropriate. We will not wait more than 5 minutes for anyone.
Uniform:
There are new uniforms this year, and we hope that they will be uniform throughout the entire program. Warmups can be purchased on the team store (available soon). Those who do not want to purchase gear will be given gear we have available. At meets, we always want BC clothing to be visible.
Letter requirements:
An athlete can letter if they accumulate 32 points in varsity competitions. Most meets score 8 points up to 10 points, and those in relays will receive the same amount the event scored (example: third place is 6 points: all relay members will receive 6)
Home meets:
We have 3 or 4 home meets each season. I will send out dates for assistance running our concession stands, and parents who would like to assist at a field event are welcome.
Our coaching staff is very excited for the season. This is new for me after spending 30-plus years in my former position. My goal is to continue the success that this program has sustained for a number of years.
