Two teachers visited the Liceo Classico Musicale in the city of Monza, in the province of Monza and Brianza, in the region of Lombardy, Italy, from 3 to 7 March.
They got to know the educational system and the how teachers and students getr along in the classroom in a very special school! In Liceo Classico Musicale, students not only studied the usual subjects, but also learned to play an instrument of their choice in the afternoon practical classes.
They were able to attend and take part in English, Latin, history, music history and mathematics classes. The students were aged between 13 and 19, as secondary education is one year longer in Italy. Another important difference with our system is that from the age of 14 (3rd ESO) they specialise in scientific, classical, musical, artistic and human studies.
It has been observed that the students are very autonomous, taking notes either on paper or on their computers, and that they have very similar grading criteria and tests to ours.
What's more, this week, Italian student of Liceo have met two of our students from the 1st Baccalaureate who are going to study in this centre for 5 weeks, and who will return to Irubide at the end of March with two Italian exchange students. Another very enriching Erasmus experience!
Have a look at some pictures of the school and the city of Monza!
