Thanks to helpful feedback from many of our schools, we’ve made an important decision about student email accounts. When we transition to Gmail and Google Workspace, student email addresses will not change.
They will continue using the familiar format: firstname.lastname@edu.sturgeon.ab.ca
Staff email addresses, as shared earlier, will move to: firstname.lastname@sturgeon.ab.ca
The primary drivers of this are:
Students won’t need to adjust to a new address or update login information
It will be easier for staff to manage student communication separately from other email
Filtering Student Emails in Gmail
You can create filters in Gmail to automatically label, organize, or prioritize student messages. To do this:
Click the filter icon at the end of the Gmail search bar
In the “From” field, enter: @edu.sturgeon.ab.ca
Click “Create filter”
Select the actions you want Gmail to apply (for example, apply a label such as “Student Email,” mark as important, or skip the inbox)
Click “Create filter” again to finalize
