Multi-Factor Authentication
Why Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multi-Factor Authentication, or MFA, is an industry best practice that adds an extra layer of protection to your SPS email accounts. Here is why this is a positive development:
Enhanced Security: MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access to your email accounts. Even if your password is compromised, an intruder would still need the second factor to gain entry.
Data Protection: We understand the importance of safeguarding your sensitive data. MFA adds an additional layer of defense to prevent unauthorized access to confidential information.
Industry Standard: Leading organizations, including several school divisions in Alberta, have already adopted MFA as a standard security practice. It aligns us with industry best practices and demonstrates our commitment to data protection.
Here are some of the divisions in Alberta who have incorporated MFA:
St. Albert Public Schools
Buffalo Trail Public Schools
Greater St. Albert Catholic Regional District
Elk Island Catholic Schools
Grand Yellowhead Public School Division
Pembina Hills School Division
St. Paul Educational Regional District
Northern Lights Public Schools
User-Friendly: Setting up MFA is straightforward, and it does not require any significant changes in your daily email routine.
How do I set it up?
Because our Division uses both Gmail and Outlook, you will need to set up multifactor authentication for both accounts.
