RICHARD "RIT" MARENO

Mr. Mareno was a 1968 graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School, attended Cortland State University and was a Navy veteran. In 1977, he began his employment with Duanesburg Elementary school as a custodian; later becoming the head custodian. Rit was a jack-of-all-trades who was an electrician, IT technician, educational assistant, stage manager and your right-hand man. He took pride in the appearance of the school building and made sure he was aware of all the activities being held at the elementary school. He was a soccer, basketball, Jayce Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coach. He was instrumental in founding the Duanesburg Educational Support Association (“DESA”) and served in the capacity of president and vice-president. In June of 2002, the DCS softball field at the elementary school was dedicated to Rit who will be remembered for his bright smile, sense of humor, helpful spirit and courage.

The softball field was dedicated in his honor in 2002.
