Volunteers

Parent and grandparent volunteers enhance the Wycallis program.  Volunteers provide extra attention and supervision during recess, in the Library, and for special events like Field Day.  They coordinate parties, field trips, and enrichment programs.  Volunteers need to sign in at least five (5) minutes before assuming volunteer duties, such as recess supervision.

Wycallis volunteers are required to follow the procedures set by School Board Policy.

Whether you are interested in volunteering at a single event or over a period of time, Dallas volunteers are required to submit background clearances which will be kept on file and valid for 5 years.  Volunteers that have clearances on file will still need to be board approved annually.

For new volunteers, all three of the following requirements must be met prior to beginning service as a volunteer:

·         Report of Criminal History from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP)

·         Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Childline)

·         Either a Dallas School District Volunteer Affirmation or a Report of Federal Criminal History (fingerprinting)

·         On-line Orientation

·         School Board Approval

A Dallas School District Volunteer Affirmation may be provided in lieu of the Report of Federal Criminal History (fingerprinting) for those volunteers who have lived continuously within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the last 10 years. Volunteers who have lived outside the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the last 10 years will be required to complete the Report of Federal Criminal History (fingerprinting).  Information for the agency websites to obtain clearances is included on the Volunteer Affirmation Form.

Please return all required documents by mail to Wycallis Primary Center, 2010 Conyngham Ave., Dallas, PA 18612. You may also deliver the documents personally to the school office. Please do not e-mail the clearances for security reasons. If you have children in more than one school building, clearance documents must be submitted to each school.  Please remember to keep copies of your clearances.

Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer at the Dallas School District.  The new requirements for volunteer clearances further support Dallas School District’s commitment to student safety.  If you have any questions, please call your child’s principal. Please refer to the District Website for more information, or call the Wycallis office at (570) 674-7283.

In addition, District Policy No. 916 states that all volunteers must complete an application and participate in a Volunteer Orientation. An application can be obtained via the PTO and the orientation will be completed online. After completing the application/orientation process, the volunteer’s name will be submitted to the School Board for approval. Parents who neglect to complete these requirements will not be permitted to volunteer at the school.

The Wycallis PTO helps to coordinate most activities served by volunteers and assigns volunteers for specific events.  If you want to volunteer, complete and return the PTO form, which will be distributed during the first weeks of school.

Whenever a volunteer serves in the school, he or she is under the supervision of the professional staff and is expected to follow school procedures.  For activities taking place when school is in session, we ask that the volunteer not bring either younger or older children, or guests.
