Educational Trips
Parents desiring to take their children on an educational trip must submit to the principal a description of the educational value to be gained by the student. This request should be submitted in writing using the Extended Absence Request Form found in the Parent Information/ Documents Tab on our Website. This request should be sent in at least two weeks prior to departure for proper review and approval. Failure to send this form in prior to the trip may result in the days being marked as Unexcused. Recess may be used to provide necessary instruction and skill practice following the trip. Work will not be sent home prior to the trip.

We urge parents to schedule family vacations when school is not in session. It is almost impossible for students to make up for missed discussions, experiments, learning games and other “hands on activities” which are the basis of instruction at Wycallis.

A handout of recommended family activities to enhance student learning will be available to guide parents who want to maintain and extend student learning during ‘educational trips’. We recommend that parents have their child keep a journal of the trip which includes places they have visited, distance traveled, new foods and culture experienced.
