Homework

Homework or home study, is important to student learning and helps children develop responsibility and independence.  Students in 1st and 2nd Grade receive homework assignments regularly and parents should expect that their children would spend time each evening in study, written work, reading or projects. Kindergarten students have homework once a week.  The amount of homework time should be proportionate to the child's age, ability and work habits.

Parents should encourage their children in developing good homework habits by planning a regular homework time and place for their child.  Having the necessary materials for homework and projects is also important.

An important part of a child’s homework responsibility is to remember to take home the necessary texts and materials.  To support this student responsibility, we do not allow children to return to the classrooms after 4:30 PM to retrieve forgotten items.

Also check your child’s teacher web page since many teachers list homework and project requirements.

Communication between the home and school is necessary when problems with homework arise.

When your child is absent from school for two or more days, you may email the teacher by 10 AM to request assignments and books.  Please indicate which books your child has at home so we can gather materials more efficiently.  Books and assignments may be picked up in the school office between 4:00 and 4:30 PM on the second day of your child’s absence.
