The procedure tells us that the reviews should be completed every 12 weeks (maximum), however in the case of a brand new apprentice, this may be too long.

Best practice shows us that a first review for a brand new apprentice should be at Week 4, that is four weeks after enrolment. This will ensure that both the apprentice and the employer are happy with the current arrangements.

Discuss with the apprentice and the employer's representative, the date and time of that first review. If either are uncertain of their commitments at that time make a note in your calendar to contact them closer to the time. Make it clear that you will need the apprentice's undivided attention for about 45 minutes to an hour on that day.

A few days after enrolment your apprentice will appear on your Smart assessor account. You can now create two new sessions, one for the day of the enrolment entitled 'Induction' and one for the planned date of the first review, entitled 'Formal review.
