In order to pinpoint the apprentice's starting point accurately, it's important to consider the apprentice's opinion on where they believe they are in regards to the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the standard.
Each standard has an initial self-assessment that is completed at enrolment and stays with the enrolment documents in the master files.
The Initial Self Assessment will list all the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) of the standard.
The apprentice is expected to tick:
Yes - if they already have that knowledge, skill or behaviour
No - if they do not have that knowledge, skill or behaviour
Need more support - if they partly have the knowledge, skill or behaviour.
This is clearly a subjective viewpoint and the assessor may want to investigate further, through observation or interview.
