This training will help you to focus on the important information that must be gathered during the progress review. This will not only save time but help the apprentice to develop the skills they will need for most End Point assessment methods.
This section requires a reflection on the 20% off-the-job training record.
The first section of the review form asks us to give feedback on the actions set last time by the apprentice, assessor and the employer.
We should comment on the achievement of the actions or record why the target wasn't met. For example, the target may have requested evidence that did not naturally occur between reviews.
The copying of previous targets with no explanation should be avoided.
This section allows the assessor to record details of any personal development modules that have completed since the last review. And the discussion around their effect on the apprentice.
This is development beyond the requirements of the standard.
This section gives the apprentice the opportunity to describe the new knowledge, skills and behaviours learnt since the last review.
It is here that the apprentice can develop their ability to describe their learning, this will help them during their EPA in professional discussions, interviews or presentations.
In this section the apprentice should describe their development of English, maths and digital skills.
Even if they are not completing a qualification there will be some element that needs improvement.
This section has three clear questions for the employer to make comment on.
What is the apprentice doing well?
How is the apprentice contributing to the organisation? - how has business improve since the apprentice started
What would you like the apprentice to focus on next? - here the employer can set a target for the apprentice to focus on at work.
Here SMART targets are set by the apprentice, employer and assessor.
There is no definative time frame set between short, medium and long targets, but best practice dictates:
Short - targets to be achieved by next assessment plan or review.
Medium - targets to be achieved between the next assessment/review and the following review, these will become the short targets at the next review.
Long - targets to be achieve after the next two reviews, these will become the medium targets at the next review.
This practice will show that progression is planned in advance, and will allow apprentices to work ahead if they wish.
Ensure that every target has these five elements, this will make it easier for the apprentice to achieve.
