     1. Invite a Wildlife Biologist, County Conservation Board Member, Conservation Officer, or similar into class to discuss conservation practices within Iowa(Contact IA DNR for support)

     1. Break classroom into small groups(2-4) and assign them a section of the chapter. They will read and discuss their section within their group. After all groups have had time to discuss amongst themselves they will present their section to the entire class.

   • Teacher led discussion

     1. students are assigned reading prior to classroom and teacher facilitates discussion

   • Problem Based Group Discussion

     1. Small groups debrief and describe their ideas to answer the following question: A beautiful lake, with abundant wildlife, gains popularity of folks looking to build new homes. As a result of the increase in housing around the lake much of the habitat is lost. Discuss with your group the pros and cons of this situation.

5. Supplemental Questions or Activities

   • Group students into teams of 3-4. Give each group a large assortment of wildlife pictures(large mammals, small mammals, upland birds, waterfowl). Ask each group to organize the pictures into as many or as few of groups as they choose. After a few minutes, ask a member to each group to explain one of their groups and the reason they included the pictures in it. Have each group present at least one explanation for their grouping.
