The English Department is thrilled to share that three of our students have won the Outstanding Student Award from i-Learner! Congratulations to Lee Hiu Ching Hilda (2N), Lam Lam Kau (4L), and Fang Chin Wai (4L) for their remarkable achievement.
The platform requires junior form users to complete various reading exercises, while senior form users focus on DSE-related questions to earn scores. As a result, students dedicate significant extra time to improving their English skills.
Yesterday, they attended the prize presentation ceremony, where they received well-deserved recognition for their hard work and dedication.
Here are their messages of gratitude:
"I am truly honored to receive the Outstanding Student Award at DSE i-Learner. I believe this platform has provided me with valuable opportunities to improve my English outside of regular classes. I couldn’t have achieved this without the encouragement of my teachers and my own persistence. This award is a recognition of my past efforts, and I hope to continue improving in the future." by Fang Chin Wai, 4L
"I was genuinely surprised and delighted to receive this award. I believe that if I continue to work hard and improve, I can feel proud of my efforts, regardless of the outcome. This experience has motivated me even more to strive for excellence." By Lam Lam Kau, 4L
Let’s continue to encourage and inspire our students to achieve great things.
Thank you, Miss Alice Wu, for running the programme.
The three-day Pre-S1 Induction Programme (Phase 1) was successfully completed. During the programme, students learned essential classroom instructions and daily routines in English, experiencing a brain-based learning approach. They were also introduced to using iPads for English learning. Additionally, some students took part in a guided tour of the school campus, where they explored key facilities while practicing English.
A group of S1 students took part in a fun-filled English Summer Programme held at school. Students learnt English through designing posters, photo frames and different things. Through engaging activities, they explored the beauty of the language and discovered just how enjoyable learning English can be.
It’s wonderful to see all S3 students actively participating in the “Speaking for All” post-examination activity! Students were invited to speak about their favourite games and leisure activities. The event not only boosts confidence and communication skills but also fosters teamwork and creativity.
After a year of activities and competitions, 20 outstanding students were selected to embark on the highly anticipated study tour to Melbourne, Australia. Accompanying them were Miss Wong WL (teacher-in-charge), Miss Wu YM, Mr. Lau KC and our school principal, Dr. Lo KF, who added great value to the experience.
The trip was far more than just sightseeing—students immersed themselves in cultural exchange by visiting St. Bede’s College, a local Lasallian high school. Both our students and their Australian counterparts delivered engaging presentations about their respective schools and cultures. We were incredibly proud of our students for showcasing Hong Kong’s vibrant traditions with such confidence and enthusiasm.
Beyond the school visit, the itinerary was packed with unforgettable experiences. To name a few:
Observing the famously sleepy koalas at Melbourne Zoo,
Riding the iconic Puffing Billy train with legs dangling freely from the windows,
Reflecting on the devastating impacts of war at the Shrine of Remembrance,
Exploring Australia’s rich history and evolution at the Melbourne Museum,
Camping at Frank’s Farm, where students designed boomerangs, fed animals, and marveled at Australia’s breathtaking natural beauty.
It was a journey filled with learning, adventure, and unforgettable memories. Want to relive the experience? Check out the students’ journals here!
Students had to participate in various English activities, excel in their English exams, and ultimately compete in a major public speaking competitions to become one of the 20 outstanding students.

We were excited to invite Dovetales to our school for an interactive drama show "Joseph and His Dreamcoat".
This drama show not only brought us laughter and joy, but also encouraged deeper reflections on the importance of persistence in pursuing dreams, facing challenges, and embracing forgiveness.
Students enjoyed the show so much. During the show, they used English to ask questions and share their insights into the plot. Some students and teachers even had the opportunity to be part of the performance!
Our student, 5N Fiona, participated in the Inter-school Storytelling and Public Speaking Contest 2025, delivering a compelling speech centered on two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—"No Poverty" and "Zero Hunger." Although she did not secure a top placement, the experience was incredibly valuable, helping her build confidence and gain insights into how other students prepared for such competitions. With this newfound knowledge, Fiona is determined to perform even better in future opportunities.
As a member of the Lasallian family, DLSSSNT enjoys one privilege that other schools normally do not have - support from the Brothers. The school has been planning to have more collaboration with the Brothers before COVID, but the pandemic postponed the plan until last year.
This year, we are honoured to have Brother Dennis providing our students with some interesting English activities. Some students are picked from their original English groups and they have the opportunity to talk to him in English! Brother Dennis also brings the students to the new chapel and celebrates the Birthday of the Month with the students who were born in the same month.
To carry on St. La Salle's mission, the Brothers care about the education of the children a lot. We appreciate that we have the Brothers.
The English Club recently organised an exciting S4-S5 Speaking Practice Activity designed to enhance students' English communication skills. Through engaging and interactive exercises, participants had the opportunity to improve their fluency, confidence, and teamwork.
The activity was a great success, providing a fun and meaningful platform for students to sharpen their language skills while connecting with peers.
We look forward to organising more activities like this and encouraging even more students to join us!
Every Wednesday is our school’s English Day. This Wednesday, English Department held a very engaging activity to promote positive education. Students were invited to explore inspiring quotes displayed in the corridor outside the staff room. Those who completed a worksheet could exchange the worksheet with a gift during lunchtime. We were thrilled to see over 60 students participate, with many going above and beyond by completing three sets of worksheets! This event not only encouraged reflection and discussion about English, but also promoted a culture of positivity and growth.
The 3-day English Week, themed Harry Potter, was a magical success! Four enchanting booths offered spellbinding tasks, and students eagerly completed them all to win a prize—a wand-shaped pen. Laughter and excitement filled the air as everyone embraced the wizarding world. A huge thank you to the dedicated teachers who made it possible—your efforts were truly magical!

A group of 4L students were taking part in an English guided tour of Tai Kwun on May 21. Exploring it as an interdisciplinary place of engagement, where students were encouraged to utilise their knowledge in English and integrate it into an immersive experience at this highly significant historical and cultural site in Hong Kong. Check out the photos here!
This morning we visited Tai Kwun, a historical site in Hong Kong, blends heritage with modernity. Once a prison and police station, its restored colonial architecture showcases brick walls and iron gates. I learned a lot of history about this place and learned about the lives of the prisoners who were once in this prison. This is such an amazing and unforgettable experience.

This morning, we visited Tai Kwun. As an ancient building with rich historical and cultural heritage, it has been preserved through conservation and revitalization, allowing us to relive that period of history. Moreover, the docent explained everything in great detail. It was truly an unforgettable experience.

Fruit is very important to us. However, not many of us know that there are many fun facts related to fruit. Therefore, EEPT teamed up with the Home Economics Club to share 10 fun fruit facts with students. Having completed a quick worksheet, and enjoyed a delicious fruit tart as a sweet reward!
Learning has never been this tasty!
The school prinicipal, Dr. Lo, used English to help the students place their order too!
The interhouse spelling bee competition held on Wednesday, 19 March 2025, at the Ground Hall was a lively and engaging event that brought students together in a spirit of friendly competition and learning. Around 70 participants from various forms took to the stage to showcase their spelling skills. They were tested on vocabulary related to the themes of pandas and Chinese culture. With teachers and classmates cheering them on, a supportive and enthusiastic environment was created.
This year, all S1 and S2 students were encouraged to participate in the Read Out Loud competition. They were required to select from a variety of texts provided by the organizer and showcase their reading skills in a single audio recording. Students showed high interest and signed up to participate. Ten students stood out and were awarded certificates for their impressive performances. Notably, one student has been shortlisted for the semi-final round. Best of luck to her!

The Pizza Express program encouraged students to explore a wider vocabulary and communication opportunities through hands-on experience in making pizza. Students could follow the tutor's instructions, express their interest in pizza-making, and actively participate in the discussion sessions. Even students facing various challenges showed their enthusiasm by asking questions and observing their peers. We are pleased to see students with different levels of English proficiency supporting and learning from one another. We highly recommend that more students can discover their interests and find motivation for learning English through engaging hands-on activities in the future. Check out their photos here.
The annual English handwriting competition was held in December and we finally had the winners. It took the teachers a long time to make up their decision of who the winners should be as the submitted pieces were all excellent. We look forward to having good pieces in future.
Here are the winners:
On Wednesday, the 22nd of January 2025, Mrs. Koleung and Mr. Neil accompanied 20 students from 5N class to The Hong Kong Wetland Park, a conservation, education, and tourism facility, located in the northern part of Tin Shui Wai. This park was a refreshing change from the classroom and all students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the outing. We were first introduced to PUI PUI, the crocodile, who was sleeping at the time but still looked pretty scary. We then followed the path towards The Stream Walk where there were many different types of fish and birds to observe. This was followed by a stroll through the Mangrove Forest, a swampy area with unusual trees and more interesting wildlife. In addition, all students enjoyed the view from the bird hides. We were lucky to be under cover when the rain came for a few minutes. Finally, a leisurely walk through the Butterfly Gardens marked the end of a special afternoon. All students followed the English instructions in the booklet they were given, and they filled in the information asked. Well done, students of 5N who showed maturity, dedication, and a willingness to learn new things. Check out their photos here.
Students who joined the study tour to Singapore have finally done their presentation, sharing their experience of the trip. It involved students across different forms. Let's listen to their sharing!
DLSSSNT held another coffee serving event. This time, the EEPT invited the Home Economic club to make some delicious tidbits - oreo cheesecake for students to nibble with coffee! Once again, there was a long queue outside the ground hall and it took both lunch break and after-school time to finish all the servings. Check out the photos here.
Four of our students were honoured to be invited to join an online forum organised by St Joseph's Institution (SJI) in Singapore to share their views regarding Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the time, students from different nations joined a Zoom meeting and talked about their opinions regarding one of the selected goals:
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
Goal 13: Climate Action: Taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
After receiving the approval from SJI, our students were allowed to pick another topic related to equality, which is another goal all nations want to achieve. 5D Mekka Gundayao, 5D Selina Liao, 5L Oscar Chow and 5D Peter Yu did a five-minute presentation and received positive feedback. As global citizens, this is an excellent channel for us to make a difference!
The 2025 DSE examination is quickly approaching. Same as what we did in the past, S6 students have started the additional supplementary English programme focusing on Listening and Integrated Skills, which is the most challenging paper in English Language exam. With additional exposure, we believe students can benefit from the programme and achieve better scores in the DSE exam.
To better equip students to prepare for their DSE examination, a group of S4 students were selected and provided with an English elite programme. The workshop focused on giving information about how to tackle Paper 3 and the manipulation of the Data File. Students were so attentive. They even stayed for another half an hour and asked plenty of questions after the first lesson. It's very important to maintain students' motivation so hopefully the programme will give them more ideas and enhance their confidence in the DSE exam.
Thanks to the school, 33 S2 students took their sense of smell on a journey as K11 Musea staff guided them through masterful artwork for the nose, and embarked on their scented tour around the world at K11 MUSEA. Our students were very attentive, listening to the guide. It was a fabulous and precious experience to learn ‘Shopping Fun’ outside the classroom in a real shopping mall! Check out the photos here.
Family is very important in our life, especially for Chinese people. Therefore, it's always good to teach our students to cherish what we have and love our family members. Coco is an animated movie that displays a strong reminder of the power of family, how our bonds and connections with those who died never end, and how our traditions and stories keep our loved ones alive. Students also completed a worksheet to get to know more about family relationship while watching the animation.
Guess what? We have a new Bee Card this year. It's much more eye-catching and easy to identify the signatures obtained from the teachers. The Bee Card also accounts for part of the points for the overseas study Tour. Get as many signatures as you can, and you may be one of the students for the coming tour!
