The 3-day S1 Induction Programme Phase 1 has just finished. This year, instead of the having traditional English lessons in the classroom, English Department invited Chatteris Educational Foundation, a non-profit making organization, to come to our school to provide English Summer Events for our Pre S1 students. During the time, students were grouped with more than 10 Native English-speaking tutors. They were doing different interactive activities and most students enjoyed the moments. Check out the photos here!
After several years of the pandemic, DLSSSNT could finally resume our English study tour in the overseas. Interested participants were selected according to their participations in English activities, English test and exam results, performance in different English competitions, and also teachers' recommendation. These students were chaperoned by Miss Wong WL, Miss Wu YM, and Mr. Lau KC and visited Singapore for six days and five nights. Throughout the trip, students benefit a lot from the eye-opening experience. Let's have a look at their journals and know more about what they saw, what they learnt and how they felt about this valuable experience.
The school has finally come to the end of the academic year, and it's time to relax a bit with the appreciation of the classic - Beauty and the Beast. Students might have watched the story in the movie theatre, and we are sure the staged show has given them a different experience.
Lasallian Brothers have been showing a lot of supports to the schools of the Lasallian Family. We are so honoured that this year, Brother Paolo is going to provide additional English supports to our students!
From November onwards, Brother Paolo will visit different classes and offer the students a very interactive reading time during the morning reading period.
During lunch time, different groups of S1 students need to go to the English Corner every week. Brother Paolo prepares interesting activities to let students have some fun, and most importantly, language exposure.
He is also visiting other classes for some sharing of the religious studies! We are all looking forward to these fabulous moments with him.
S2 Students are learning Limerick.
4D Mekka, 4D Oscar Chow, 4D Emily Hu and 4D Lily Li participated in the AI Tutoring on English Writing Upgrade Award Scheme held by INSE, HKU Business School, Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Rotary District 3450. They were asked to submit a writing based on a topic as a pre-test, and the AI online platform would automatically generate feedback and provide suggestions for improvement in terms of grammar, ideas, sentence patterns and organisation. During the time, students needed to keep revising their writing. In the end, they were asked to submit another writing based on a similar question under teacher’s supervision (Thank you Miss Victoria Chan by the way!). Mekka and Emily managed to get a silver and bronze awards respectively for the best upgrade and progress awards. Mekka’s performance was even ranked 8th in the Top 100 list. Congratulations to these students!
A group of students joined a mocktail (non-alcoholic) workshop and it would be great if we could give them a chance to showcase their talents. EEPT invited Cafe de La Salle together with the mocktail student 'bartenders' to serve their schoolmates Italian coffee and summer special drinks in English! Before the activity began, there was a long line outside the ground hall waiting for their turn to get the drink. It was a great success for the student baristas and 'bartenders'! Next year, we believe there will be more variety for the students to try!
We are proud to present you the 3rd place winners of this year Time To Talk Public Speaking Competition - 4D Oscar Chow, 4D Mekka, 4D Selina Liao and 4D Themis Chui. Competing against many other schools that have high reputation of English excellence, our students succeeded in defeating these schools by presenting the messages of not losing hope and being capable to love and be loved, using the song "Where is The Love - by The Black Eyed Peas". S3 Students also gained a very valuable experience, which will be beneficial for their competition next year. Congratulations!
Here are the video of their rehearsal:
A group of S1 students were given the opportunity to enhance their English by participating a 6-hour English Elite Programme on Saturdays. During the time, students got a chance to know more about pets and animals. Students found the programme useful and they enjoyed the time speaking and learning English.
"Look, there is a long queue! What's going on there?"
The English Environment Promotion Team collaborated with the Home Economics Club for the Fruit Week on 8 May 2024. Students were asked to complete a worksheet that required them to get the information from the campus TV in the morning. Students learned different types of fruits, their nutrition and interesting facts.
At lunchtime, more than 200 students brought their completed worksheets to the Ground Hall enthusiastically. As a reward for their participation, students could choose a fruit dessert. Students used English to pick either a fruit Danish almond puff, or a croffle, which is a combination of a croissant and a waffle.
Overall, this activity not only successfully promoted healthy eating habits but also encouraged students to speak more English.
Check out the photo album and see the frenzy of fruit dessert!

"Are you ready? You have three minutes to do your presentation. You may now start..." (Don't worry! This is not an oral examination!)
Nobody denies that English language is very important and no matter how good your English is, having the chance of giving an English speech in public will definitely mean something to you. EEPT held a Read Aloud Competition and Public Speaking Competition during English Week. Students were asked to study a story so that they could present the story with meaning, and they also needed to spend their Easter Holiday to prepare a speech about planning for a study tour to Singapore. The competition was intense, and participants all tried their very best to do their presentations! Good Job!
To express our appreciation for the dedication and love that our family, teachers and friends have shown to us, the theme of our annual English Week has been set to "Love". During the week, students were exposed to different English Songs. They were given lyrics that talk about different kinds of love. English teachers spent their lesson time with the students to go over the songs and different related activities. Students could pick the song that best represented their feeling towards the people whom they appreciated. There was also a penmanship competition that required the students to copy the lyrics we shared. Students also got a chance to fill in the lyrics by listening to the songs. Does it sound familiar to you if you are born in the 80s or 90s?
We are thrilled to announce the long-awaited return of our study tour! After several years of pandemic, we are excited to resume this extraordinary educational experience.
More than 50 interested students came to the briefing session and they were told to do both read aloud and presentation competitions.
We look forward to our study tour. Together, let us embrace the valuable experience that awaits and rediscover the joy of learning through travel.
A group of S1 students were invited to spend a wonderful afternoon at Pui Ching Middle School on 6 April appreciating a mini drama and musical about pursuing dreams. It was a valuable opportunity for our students to have more exposure on performing art in English. Despite the challenging content, students showed great interest and curiosity in the show. Thanks Mrs Koleung for this unique experience.
Rotary Clubs of Neoteric Hong Kong and SoHo Hong Kong organised a youth programme writing workshop with the topic of “Success. Unlocked. - A Rotary Micro-fiction Journey”. The workshop focused on teaching students how to write micro-fiction, that is, a very short story that normally has fewer than 50 words. This year, the theme is "Reflections on the Definition of Success”. Starting from December 2023, three of our students 3L Betty Zhuo (Team leader), 3D Xandy Zhou and 3D Phoebe Fang had gone through a journey to explore the meaning of success through research, having interviews with successful business people in English and multi-disciplinary training. They managed to draft their story and condensed the story from 398 words into 37 words. Here, we would like to ask you to share the message with your friends and students, and encourage them to support and vote for the work of our students. Our students’ entry is 001EN. Please vote for them by pressing the heart below the picture.

The certificates for the 3rd Hong Kong School Hard Pen Handwriting Competition have finally been presented. The competition was held in a whole-school approach and every student had a chance to learn the cursive style of English writing. That's why it took much longer time to identify the winners. Congratulations to the artistic writers
A group of S3 students visited the Hong Kong Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and learned about the importance of animal welfare in English. They also learned how to take care of animals by looking at the five areas: diet, behaviour, environment, health and companion. Most importantly, they showed their empathy towards animals during and after the visit.

This month, EEPT is looking at the English words related to technology. After a few weeks of introducing the vocabulary items, it is time for something that students are interested in. Therefore, we reserved the school hall and showed a video that was highly related to innovations - Big Hero 6. The huge screen and the sound system immersed the students in the story. Some students even shed tears because Baymax sacrifices himself to save Hiro!
During the time, students were asked to complete different worksheets. If you happen to watch the same movie before, you may also test your knowledge about the story!
After waiting for more than six months, the belated certificates finally arrived. Some of the students even forgot that they had joined the writing competition. This annual writing competition is a very good opportunity to let students reflect on how they should treat others, and be thankful and grateful to someone who has offered help to them. Hopefully there will be more excellent writing pieces in the coming years.
To let students have more authentic learning experience, all S5 students were required to participate in afternoon outing activities. Together with Biology and Geography teams, English Department offered to take a group of S5 students to Wetland Park (which has become a regular activity) for more English exposure. During the time, our NET, Mr. David, turned himself into a tour guide and led the students to the world of nature.
Hopefully students had a great time enjoying the environment in terms of the nature and English speaking!

After three weeks of introducing different vocabulary items based on the theme of "History", EEPT has just held a spelling bee competition for both junior and senior form students. Students were asked to sit in groups of four and they needed to form the words within the time limit. The fastest students would get the highest scores and at the same time add the scores to their houses for the inter-house competition. Many students came to test their own spelling and had fun together!

It's another beginning of the school year. The English Environment Promotion Team (EEPT) has chosen "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" as the movie of the month, aligning with September theme of setting goals. The movie appreciation took place in the Ground Hall during lunch break. There were more than 120 students enthusiastically participated. It was a great opportunity for students to learn English in an enjoyable environment.
With the school reintroducing the House system this year, the selected movie is an excellent example for students to understand the concept (There are four houses in Harry Potter: Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff and Salazar Slytherin). Furthermore, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" is a captivating film that inspires and motivates students to set new goals for the upcoming year.
Thanks to Miss Wong WL and Mr Au CK for hosting the event!
