Due to the pandemic, cross-border students could only receive after-school English supports through ZOOM. With the re-opening of the border, students who cross border daily can finally have face-to-face lessons. To facilitate learning and cater for learning diversity, students will be re-grouped so that they could learn more effectively according to their English levels. Students may check your own group and room below:
After paying lots of effort in doing revision for the final examination, it's time to relax a bit. This year, we have invited Dove Tales Theatre Company, which specializes performing drama, to come to our school for an artistic morning session - performing the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by Shakespeare.
The professional actors and actress managed to grasp the attention of the students with simple English and lots of funny body gestures. Teachers and students were invited to perform a small part of scene too.
We hope teachers and students enjoy the show, and hopefully some of the students found drama interesting and become one of the crew. Maybe one of them would become a famous stage performer!
All students watched a short video clip to get some background knowledge before the performance.
Four S.3 students from our school participated in the Time to Talk Public Speaking Competition 2022-2023 organised by the EDB NET Section held on the 10th May 2023. They did brilliantly and claimed the Merit, and defeated a number of EMI schools!
The Competition is an inclusive competition that aims to engage students to learn public speaking techniques to hone their presentation skills; experiment with the use of English to develop confidence in front of an audience; develop research, collaboration and IT skills to improve their communication skills; and develop positive values and attitudes in the course of preparing for participation in the competition.
Our students presented their ideas on one of their favourite songs “This is me” by Keala Settle from the Greatest Showman. This song is a fight song and a song that celebrates diversity, encourages self-acceptance, and inspires us to be brave and stand up for what we believe in.
Congratulations to the following students:
GUNDAYAO MEKKA ELLA AGUINALDO (3L)
LIAO CHOI LAM (3L)
CHOW CHING CHI (3S)
CHUI CHO YI (3S)
Thank you Mr. Au CK and Miss Man KY for training the students.
Beside Speech Festival, our students were also encouraged to participate in different speaking contests. This year, all S1 and S2 students were invited to submit their voice recording for a Read Out Loud competition. Students were required to choose one of the reading texts provided by the organizer and perform a reading aloud with meaning by making an audio recording without pausing. Five students managed to be chosen and were awarded with certificates. One of them was even shortlisted for the semi-final. Let’s wish her luck!
1D Cheung Sze Maan (Awarded with Certificate, Semi-finalist)
1N Wu Sze Tung, 2D Zhou Xianliang, 2S Chen Ching Yu, 2N Chan Linda (Awarded with Certificate)
When we go to the zoo, we can see different animals through the thick glass and windows. However, touching them is always forbidden. This year, we invited Jurassic Garage to our school for an exotic experience with our students. African Zoologist Toni Kingston brought our students to a different world of wildlife. He first shared different animals' information with our students in English, such as animal classification (分類), habitats (棲息地), adaptation (適應), and conservation (保育). Later it came to the most exciting part: students had a close contact/encounter with the exotic animals! There were Big Lizard Tegu, Bullfrog, Tarantula , Snakes, Hercules beetle, Bearded dragon, Coconut Crab and Millipede. Brave students did not just have the chance to touch them, but let the animals crawl around their body.
With hands-on experience, students could appreciate the animals' texture, detail, behavior, personality, and beauty. The event left a lasting impact, fostering an interest in wildlife and nature, correcting misunderstandings and negative thoughts, and promoting respect for all animals and people.
Students who finished their "exclusive tour" and answered questions from teachers could get signatures. Once they got three signatures, they could get a free drink from Cafe de La Salle!

The Fruit Week was hosted by the English Environment Promotional Team in collaboration with the Student Union and Biology class. The event was designed to promote healthy eating habits and provide students with an opportunity to improve their English language skills. During the week, students were able to learn about the nutritional benefits of different fruits and how they could incorporate them into their diets.
To participate, students needed to complete a worksheet that covered various aspects of fruit nutrition and fruit names. Once completed, students received a lemon or blueberry tart as a healthy and delicious reward. Students not only learned about the benefits of fruit, but also gained a deeper understanding of the scientific principles behind them. The event was a great success, providing students with a fun and educational experience that emphasized the importance of healthy eating habits and interdisciplinary collaboration in education.
It's always good to let students expose to authentic English and at the same time nurture their sympathy, and even empathy. English Department took a group of S3 students to the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) to learn words like shelter (保護), adoption (領養), abandon (遺棄), neuter (絕育), stray (流浪動物), euthanasia (安樂死) and many other words that are related to breeds (品種). That was a very reflective and meaningful visit and every student learnt something during the trip. To see more pictures, please visit the photo album.
In order to promote English reading habit for our junior form students, the school subscribed i-Learner, which is an online reading platform, so that students can use their handheld device to read as much as they can. After reading each text, students need to complete different tasks to earn points. 2D Yiu Ho Sze beat many other students and received the Outstanding Student Award.
Let's read more English!
The certificates of the writing workshop organised by English WeCan and SCMP finally arrived. Several students joined the workshop last year during the Easter holiday. However, because of the pandemic, they had to attend the workshop online. These three students managed to show their perseverance and submitted all the written works! Therefore, they were awarded with the certificates of completion.
6L Wong Yi, 6L Ng Ka Yee, 6L Lam Yan Yin
We were so lucky that we could invite Ms Dana Winograd from Plastic Free Seas to share the important message of how a tiny act could affect our marine life. It was so difficult to imagine that a mask can actually kill different adorable sea creatures.
All form five students had a very informative assembly. As our English teacher Mr. Chan CS suggested, they had not just raised their awareness about what they can do to save the environment, but also got lots of useful ideas for their DSE English writing paper!
With the advancement of information technology, students have a lot of opportunities to learn and read. This year, the school started a new online reading programme that collaborate with i-Learner. Students are required to read short articles every week. Students can earn scores and receive certificates at the end of the year. If you want to improve your English literacy, reading is the best way to enhance your vocabulary bank!
This year, a group of students once again visited the Hong Kong Wetland Park to explore the natural side of Hong Kong.
It was a beautiful day. The students quickly shed their coats and entered the park. Students were separated into different groups and explored the park while they were working on the worksheet prepared by our NET, Mr. David. Students learnt different names of the plants and insects.
Students had a good time and that was a good opportunity for students to learn outside the classroom.
This year we had collected more entries from our students. It showed that students were much more conscious about the art of cursive style. Some of the students even asked for a second (or third) trial for the best submission!
Thanks to the school art teacher who spent a couple hours screening the pieces and shortlisted a number of students for the semi-final. Here are the winners:
Nothing better than a cup of Italian coffee during the long day of study and work. With the help of English Environment Promotion Team (EEPT) and the support by the student baristas from the IE Team, Café de La Salle was re-open finally. All students could have a cup of coffee free of charge if they used English to place their orders. While students were drinking their coffee, some teachers would sit next to them and chitchat with them in English. The skilful student baristas also had a chance to practise their coffee making skills as well as taking the orders in English. Do you want to try some? Just remember, don't drink too much!
