Many students are discussing the one lunch period this year: lines are stretching out the door, and students don't have time to take a break between classes. This overcrowded situation is stressing students out, the hallways are packed, everyone is shoving each other around and groups of people are cutting lines, causing arguments. Most often, students don't even bother to go get any food in the hot lunch line because it is so long.
This in turn really doesn’t ensure that every student is able to get food at lunch. In fact, the only thing it ensures is the whole student body divided into two crowded cafeteria rooms in one time period. This really isn’t effective to help anyone get their food or escape the crowds. Even if students are reminded that they are also welcome to eat their lunch in the south cafeteria, most, clearly, prefer the north, As it is the building where most of them have their next class, where their friends are, or out of convenience. Dee’s Corner is also not a choice for many, as lunch could be over before they even get their food or get through the line.
There are also problems with being able to get lunch at other places besides the cafeteria. And since there aren’t really any other options for food, the north cafeteria is doomed to be overcrowded and people go without eating or they pick up a fruit by the cold lunch line, as it is the fastest moving line. Something should be done to improve this. Extending the time for lunch would be useful, as well as more regulation of the hot lunch line. Students keep cutting and making it so the line doesn’t move and takes twice as long.
