Rural Outreach Program: Bani School Innovation Camp V (Basic V); Biar Initiative: A School Outreach Program for Enrichment II (Bioscope II)

Date: 13th and 14th February 2023

Venue: Govt. Senior Sec. School, Bani and Biar (villages), Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh

This rural outreach program is an initiative by the INSA Outreach Program and University of Delhi Organized under the aegis of International Microbiology Literacy Initiative (IMiLI), International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME), Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS), Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI), Indian Network for Soil Contamination Research (INSCR) & in association with Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DU), Acharya Narendra Dev College (DU), Ramjas College (DU), Department of Zoology (DU), Deshbandhu College (DU), Kirori Mal College (DU), Maitreyi College (DU) and Phixgen Pvt. Ltd., Gurugram at Govt. This outreach program was held in Senior Secondary School, Bani & Biar Village, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, India. This was a 4-day trip in which students were participated from Deshbandhu college, Ramjas college, Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, Acharya Narendra Dev College and Department of Zoology (DU). Deshbandhu College under the leadership of Teacher Coordinators: Dr. Kiran Bala and Dr. Shekhar Nagar and 8 students. Akash Singh Chauhan, Karan Biswal, Vanshika Jamwal, Khushnuma (B. Sc.) Hons. Zoology III, and Vaishnavi Joshi, Bhumika Arora, Kanishka Bidha and Dipshika Singh (B. Sc.) Hons. Zoology II promoted the microbial literacy mainly focusing on two modules. Modules that were performed:

A. To extract the DNA of a fruit using household products.

B. “Kya aapke khane mein milawat hai?” (Food Adulteration).  The encouragement of Prof. Rajiv Aggarwal Sir and the backbone of department of zoology TIC Dr.  Manisha Sengar supported wholeheartedly leads to successful completion of this outreach program.
