The Department of Zoology, Deshbandhu College, under the guidance of our respected Principal Prof. Kamal Kumar Gupta organized a field trip for the 1st semester students (around 63 students) as a part of practical curriculum of paper "Concepts of Ecology" to Aravalli Biodiversity Park, Gurgaon on October 13th, 2023 to comprehend and appreciate the beauty of our mother Earth and its ecosystem. Aravalli (‘Ara’ refers to rock and ‘valli’ refers to valley that means “the Valley of Rocks”) is one of the oldest ranges, spread in an area of 699 acres with 240 plants species of medicinal importance, conservatory of butterflies with more than 100 species of host plants, orchid conservatory and bat conservatory.
The biodiversity park was established in 2004 and came into function in 2007. The area was highly degraded due to past mining and infested with Prosopis juliflora (vilayati kikar). It contains ecologically restored and semi-arid land vegetation. It was a great learning experience for students about the biodiversity and be aware of the anthropogenic activities which harm our precious biodiversity and take measure to control the continuous deprivation of our environment. Ms. Balwinder Kaur was the Nature Education Officer who took us to various nature study trails and conservatories. The visit was organized by Dr. Sandhya Rai & Dr. Shekhar Nagar.
