INSPIRE Programs

Department of Zoology is actively involved in coordinating and conducting ‘INSPIRE Internship Programme’ in Deshbandhu College. Dr. I. K. Singh, Assistant Professor in Zoology, is the coordinator of the programme since the year 2012. The faculty members along with the team of student volunteers of the department conduct the practical components of the programme.

“Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)” is an innovative programme sponsored and managed by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. The basic objective of INSPIRE is to communicate to the youth of the country the enthusiasm of creative pursuit of science, attract talent to the scientific world at an early age and thus build the required critical human resource pool for strengthening and expanding the Science & Technology System. One of the components of “Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent for Science (SEATS)” is INSPIRE Internship in which annually about 50,000 students of top 1% performers in Class X board examinations and pursuing science at higher secondary level are being given an exposure with leaders in science in the Summer/Winter camps to experience the joy of innovations. These Science Camps essentially nourish the curiosity of children in science; help them to think out of the box and attract the students at an early age of 16-17 years to enroll in science subjects.

The Department of Zoology regularly participates and supports the conduct of Hands-on Practical Sessions of the INSPIRE camps organized by Deshbandhu College in last few years. The latest INSPIRE programme was scheduled during winter break in December last year. This time the Zoology Department INSPIRE Team was led by Dr Kamal Kumar Gupta and the team members included Dr Moses Rinchui, Dr Gouri, Dr Gajendra Singh and Mr Vijay Shah. The Team designed the experiment of DNA isolation and visualization from E.coli cells and the participant school students, then performed the same with help of student volunteers of the Department.
