Monday 

Start Entry Task

  Study the following idioms. You will be tested on them this Friday.

       Idiom - a form of expression natural to a language, person, or group of people. 


Idioms Words of the Week -

Cherry on top - To make something that is already good even better

Cool as a cucumber - Calm and serene, often in a difficult situation

Cream of the crop - The very best of a group



Academic Vocabulary Words of the Week -

summarize – explain the main points. 

synthesize – combine the parts into a coherent whole. 

trace – review in detail, step by step. 


Review the proper use of commas; see Comma Rules in Google Classroom - you will be quizzed and tested regularly.



All Students-

Continue argumentative essay; "How can schools cultivate a sense of patriotism without promoting exclusion or fostering blind loyalty?" (See Google Classroom)

The outline and rough draft will be handwritten and due at the end of class tomorrow, 1/09.

Start editing the rough draft.   

Note: Do not forget to look at the Lucky 13 handout in Google Classroom for tips on beginning sentences, paragraphs and the skillful use of transition words.


Thursday:

Start Entry Task

Complete your final draft, which is due at the end of class today (See Google Classroom)

Do not forget to read your work out loud. Does it flow, make sense and is it clean?


 

Friday:

Start Part 1 Entry Task

Idiom/ AV/Sentence type and comma test

SSR/Remember, the three assignments that are linked to the Individual Reading Project are to be done by January 23rd.
