This class covered a multitude of topics pertaining to human cells, which started with the characteristics of life. We then transitioned to cell biology, which was needed to cover biochemistry. As the year continued, we took a deeper look into human cells, including the cell cycle. Overall, I found this class very interesting and was happy to do some smaller lessons concerning the environment and its apparent issues.
Presentations
This is a group project that I did with Lillian Fischer. We were assigned a disease and had to research details of the disease to present in a google slideshow. Some requirement for the slideshow were statistics, how the disease is transmitted, symptoms, prognosis, treatment, and most recent large outbreak. I created slides 2, 4 and 6. These slides included the statistics of a specific outbreak of the plague, I chose the Black Death, the prognosis, and any additional facts. On the additional facts slide, I provided 2 facts and Lillian found the 2 others. I also designed the title slide. I had such a great time using shapes and colors in different ways to design the slides! At the same time, I dove deeper into the plague and learned that it is still out in the world.
This is a slide that I created in a group presentation on lipids. Through research and making this slide, I learned a lot about how detailed nutrition truly is. Unsaturated fats alone have multiple layers to them and various different types. It was fascinating learning about how in depth research is on these types of topics. I also created the title slide, which I tried to make look like building blocks that are meant to represent how nutrition is the accumulation of every macronutrient. Overall, I am really happy with the colors (as green is my favorite color) and I was excited that I got to use the shade feature on the shapes.
With Earth Day approaching, Mrs. Gomez provided us with photos of influential scientists and conservationists to replicate in our own, creative, way. This was such a fun project! I posed with my chocolate lab, Ellie, and photoshopped us into the original photo of Jane Goodall. I had to enlarge Ellie and crop the background out of the image. Overall, this project enhanced my knowledge on Jane Goodall as well as allowed me time to practice the skills in photoshop that I learned in Communications Technology.
Genetic Engineering Assignment
Regenlete Commercial
As a fun final project, we were instructed to create a new transgenic organism, food or product and creatively sell it to humans as something that can make their lives better. I took this as an opportunity to use Adobe Premiere in hopes of getting comfortable with the program. As was intended, I had a great time working on this project and it was definitely a fun way to end the year!
