In Communications Technology, I gained an understanding of how to take advantage of the tools offered in the adobe cloud. We learned both Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop through multiple unique projects. Each assignment improved my ability to use each program efficiently. The skills that I have gained from this class are crucial to my future at Communications and will be useful beyond as well.
Presentations
We were assigned with creating a presentation on one of our interests. I made every graphic in the slideshow using Google Drawings. This project was meant to introduce google slides and google drawings and using them together to create an appealing presentation. I had a great time creating this slideshow! It was my first time making graphics using Google Drawings and now that I have been introduced to it, I plan to use it in my future presentations to make them more interesting.
*you can take the quick quiz on the last slide if you're feeling up to it
Some individual graphics I made using Google Drawings.
Art Projects
After learning the various Elements and Principles of Design that create a good composition we were assigned to draw 2 sketches for each. We were allowed to use whatever drawings utensils we had. I enjoyed this project since I got to draw multiple different sketches to further improve my knowledge of the elements and principles, which I will use continuously throughout my time at CHS.
As a way to introduce the photoshop interface, we were assigned to create a fractal. We learned the very basics of photoshop and I used each of those skills to create this design. We learned layers, grouping, merging, the color wheel, gaussian blur, and shortcuts.
Digital Design with Photoshop
After learning the process of restoring a photo in photoshop, we went on to learn about illustration. By using layers, the brush tool, the shape tool, polygonal lasso tool, and eyedropper tool, I was able to create this image. I took a photo of multiple objects found in my home and imported it into photoshop. Using the Wacom Intuos Tablet that was in school, I illustrated the scene. After completing this project, I feel confident in saying that I have a solid grasp of the photoshop interface. Also, it was a blast creating this and learning new skills throughout the whole process.
Blob Vector
As an introduction to our Vector Bot project, we created a Blob following Mrs. Fitz's instructions. We put our vocabulary knowledge into action and gained a better understanding of Illustrator tools.
Vector Bot
Using only lines and shapes, we were assigned to create a vector bot, along with their story, in Adobe Illustrator. I had the greatest time creating Cal and his story! I started out by making Cal and adding all of the details that I thought he needed. I then went onto the sand castle, the ocean and the sky. I finished by adding the plane with "Cal The Crab" trailing behind and the text on the bottom right. By doing this project, I became comfortable with the program and have learned a bunch about shape manipulation and shading.
Personal Sketchbook Cover and Back
As our final assignment of the class, we were assigned to create a cover and back for our own personal sketchbooks! Using Adobe Illustrator, I created these two designs that I am very happy with. I tried to use colors that feel earthy and will remind me to take a second to "ground myself" when I start to overthink a design or just overthink in general. The front features a silhouette of a girl reading under a tree with deep roots. Not only does this represent a moment of calm, but it also illustrates how things go much deeper than it might seem. I hope that this will remind me to think about what a design "means", not just how it looks. The back features Earth with a curved dotted line. I put this on the back to remind myself to imagine further from what I am used to and what I have seen. There is so much more to the world and it's important to continue to wonder, continue to learn, and continue to have a desire to improve your thinking.
Photo Edits
Photo Restoration Test
For my test on photo restoration using Photoshop, we were given a old photograph to fix up. The second photo in the rotation was what I was given and I used multiple tools in Photoshop to turn it into the first image. Some tools I used were the clone tool, healing spot tool, healing brush tool as well as the adjustments to brighten and sharpen the image.
Personal Photo Edit
This is a photo from my camera roll that I edited. I took it at sunrise in Key West. I found that the repetition of the light and the symmetry created a nice image. The second photo is the original. In the edited photo, I got rid of the people in an attempt to make the moment feel more impactful, more individual. I am very happy that I got to learn these skills in Photoshop because now I can continue to use them with all my photos that I believe could be better with some editing.
Photoshop Unit Test
For the Photoshop Unit Test, we were given a picture of Post Malone, who is a man with MANY tattoos. Our assignment was to make them all disappear with the tools that we have learned throughout the unit. The second photo in the rotation was the original and the first photo is my what I turned in. I did not think I could be proud of a healed image, but this one proved to be harder than you would think. The most difficult part was the hand since most of what the photo includes is the parts that have tattoos. I am so happy that I now have these skills and can use them to produce a decent image.
