Praying for your families to feel the peace, presence and assurance that God is with you.
We always know couples are coming to the Weekend to Remember in very different places. Some are coming just for a getaway, some for a tune-up and some are truly in crisis. Our coworkers, Scott and Fara who are the FamilyLife Rep couple for Austin, sent out a pre-event email asking guests if they had any prayer requests. Read one response that was passed on with a plea to pray for this couple who were in a relentless storm.
"Our marriage feels like it may be close to being over. The only thing that keeps me from canceling it, (WTR Getaway), are the testimonies I’ve read. It’s been a very hard few months and this may actually be the only thing left to do. My prayer is that God moves in big ways through this. I am well aware of enemy attacks, and believe me when I say they have been strong and constant. Relentless. Attack after attack. It’s been very hard. We don’t even see each other anymore as who we used to, and mostly as enemies. My heart is broken, this weekend isn’t something either of us actually are looking forward to because we are in such a bad spot. It’s painful and angering at the same time.
I wanted to ask if you could pray for us. We have been through so much in the last few years, including the loss of our daughter during childbirth last summer. My heart is heavy as I type this with true desperation for prayer. Only God can change this at this point. I hope this weekend is definitely one to remember, in a good way." Emily
Scott responded and this was her reply.
"Thank you very much for the kind reply and compassion. I have been told by a few friends of mine that it is no coincidence I signed up for this prior to our current storm starting. Clearly God knew we would be where we are at today only to be at Weekend to Remember in a matter of days. Thank you for praying for us, I would love more than anything for our marriage to be restored."
Reading this brought us to tears and we along with many others prayed for this couple leading up to and during the weekend. Angie and I prayed again Friday night when I saw they had not checked in that night. We realized we had a brief encounter with this couple Saturday night in the Shop when they left their names on an item they wanted to purchase the next morning. Read what God did in the email Emily sent Scott and Fara the week after the event.
"Scott and Fara, I know neither of you know me, but I wanted to send you a report of what happened this weekend. We almost did not make it, in fact, my husband and I decided the retreat wasn't worth it and divorce was the next step for us. After hours of nasty fighting and throwing around how we are done, then missing the first day (Friday) of the retreat, I truly believe the Holy Spirit took over in such an indescribable way and we left our house at 11 pm to make it to Austin by 2 am and ended up beginning the retreat on Saturday morning on time. The next two days were the most impactful, powerful, truly important days we have had!
Our marriage was not only saved, but restored, and now we are on a completely different road. The conference was amazingly organized with such incredible people hosting it and now I can fully see how the enemy did everything possible to stop us from going.... God changed it all! The last day ending with a Covenant certificate was life-changing as the "contract" mindset is now out the window and we have renewed our commitment to our marriage and doing things so much differently now. Weekend to Remember was the best decision we could have ever made months ago and we plan to continue attending for years to come. This was the biggest blessing.
If you prayed for us, thank you deeply." Emily
