We started the year serving at a retreat for our Weekend to Remember speaker team. This year the Speaker Retreat was held in Tampa, Florida. Angie is now a part of the Speaker Department as an administrative assistant. She served alongside her manager in assisting with all the details of the weekend, loving on our speakers and helping where needed. Billy served with the tech team helping with setup, the slide presentations, and various other needs of the team.

Every January, the FamilyLife Speaker Department gathers all of our Weekend to Remember speakers for a time of training, sweet fellowship, relaxation, and encouragement. We use this time to invest in our almost 50 couples who speak at our Weekend to Remember getaways. They are an amazing team of speakers who come from all walks of life and careers. Each speaker couple goes through an intense process of training that takes about two years to complete before they are considered “senior” speakers. They’ve committed their time and various weekends to sharing the hope of the Gospel through the ministry of FamilyLife. Our goal at the Speaker Retreat is to equip them, fill them up, and send them out.

Each speaker's impact and opportunity at a Weekend to Remember is taken seriously and with humility. The speakers don’t get on the stage and act as if they have it all figured out. They share out of a place of humility and where the Lord has taken each of them in their personal life and their marriage. Because we get to work at these events, we often hear attendees say how they connected with a particular speaker and how the speaker’s story impacted them. 

The time spent at the retreat was a joy as Angie and I watched the couples receive encouragement, lift one another in prayer, and discuss areas where they may have questions about the Weekend to Remember. These speaker couples have such a love for one another and it was cool to watch them each learn from the other regardless of their years of experience. They truly share a special bond. 

We had a service recognition time where we recognized speakers who have been speaking for FamilyLife for 25, 20, and 15 years. We ended the retreat by graduating our Class of 2021 speakers. What a special moment as we commissioned eight new speaker couples. We then prayed over them as they began the year as fully-trained speakers with FamilyLife.

What a privilege it is for FamilyLife to lock arms with these couples as we invest in marriages and encourage them to walk by faith, trusting in God’s good and perfect plan for marriage.
