Praying for your families to feel the peace, presence and assurance that God is with you.
I wanted to share with you a message David Robbins, Cru President and former FamilyLife President, recently shared about the spiritual battle for our attention, a battle that every believer faces. He was reflecting on the people God raises up to accomplish His mission, and that we must trust God to help us bring light into darkness.
David reminded us that “we live in a contested space. The enemy of our souls tirelessly seeks our distraction and destruction. Whether we realize it or not, we can easily be 'discipled' by the world. If we are not intentional in seeking pathways of counter-formation in our everyday lives, we will naturally be formed by the cultural currents we find ourselves living in.”
You empower us to help families resist the pull of these cultural currents, encouraging them instead to:
Resist a focus on self that can lead to a lack of compassion.
Reject a focus on competence and performance that hinders vulnerability and authentic connection.
Overcome a focus on consuming and embrace a life of mission, giving of gifts, resources, and time.
Counter a focus on comparison and drivenness to achieve and discover true rest in Christ.
As Romans 12:1-2 says, “I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind …” (Romans 12:1-2, NIV). We are in this together, striving to be transformed and to help families experience true satisfaction in Jesus and share His joy with others.
David then encourages us all to pray for the following:
God, move amongst us and within me.
Allow me to recognize the cultural currents I have been lulled into following.
Make Your presence known to me in fresh ways in the midst of the contested space I live in.
Show me the enemy’s schemes that distract me from You.
Renew my mind, soul, and life in You.
Thank you for your unwavering support. It's because of you that together we can join God in fulfilling the Great Commission and bringing light into the lives of families.
Praise for completing the 14 week Re|Engage class and all that God did in those couples lives. Pray they would continue to walk in oneness with Christ and each other.
