Praying for your families to feel the peace, presence and assurance that God is with you.
Part of the Barber family is heading back to Texas. Angie and I have gotten approval from FamilyLife to work from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This decision has had many steps, lots of counsel sought and many prayers lifted up.
Our decision process started on August 28th when the announcement was made that FamilyLife’s headquarters would be moving to Orlando, Florida. This is a process that will take place over the next two years. The first phase will transition by August 2020 and the second phase by August 2021. Most of us in the Events department were given the option of exploring working remotely as an alternative to moving to Orlando. FamilyLife has given everyone the opportunity to take a vision trip to Orlando to see the area and the Cru headquarters where FamilyLife will be housed. We took our trip to Orlando in January. We came away from that trip excited about the future of FamilyLife and the expanded reach this move will help fuel. But for my position as an Event Planner, we could not see a huge advantage to living there as opposed to living and working from Texas.

A moment of reflection written in the sand.
Why Texas? First and foremost because staying in Arkansas was not an option given to us. The parameters I was told on choosing places to serve in the field were: In or close to a city that we have a Weekend to Remember event and close enough to a major airport to be able to travel to events not within driving distance. That gave us basically three areas in Texas—Houston, Austin/San Antonio or DFW. Weighing everything practically, the DFW area puts us closer to our kids, both sides of our family and many of those who support us that live in Central Texas.
When will this happen? We are part of the second phase and will make our transition sometime in 2021. While we are excited about what God is doing in and through the ministry of FamilyLife, we are still struggling and apprehensive about moving. We know that God is faithful and just as we have made many wonderful friends here, we know He has more for us to meet and get to know wherever we land in the DFW area.
Please continue to pray as we process the changes ahead of us. Brandon will graduate high school in a few months and head to college. This will make us empty nesters and after 23 years of kids in the home it will be just the two of us again. Thankfully we still like each other, but this will still be a huge adjustment. We will keep you informed as we know more about our transition timeline.
We were most likely going to get a divorce. After this weekend I’ve decided to put my faith back in God and give my marriage another chance.
Military wife - 6 years
It helped me as a husband really understand my role for the first time and what I need to change in my marriage. Also my wife wants to start working on us again.
Military Husband - 6 years
Our marriage is in shambles. This weekend gave me / us renewed hope. God planned the timing of this conference and the speakers we needed to hear perfectly. Really helped us to intentionally connect the homework.
Wife, married 17 years
Praise that Rachel has a job that works with her internship schedule! She has two internships and we give praise for that as well!
Pray for the many Weekend to Remember getaways this season. Pray hearts are encouraged and lives changed.
Pray God would continue to direct our steps in the midst of this work transition and give peace in the process.
Although our move is still a ways away, pray God would direct us to where He wants us in the DFW area.
