"I think that health is the most important thing because we just can't function or prosper in any other aspect of life if we are not physically taken care of."

"It’s important to me that we understand that we are more than ourselves and that how can I be happy eating if I'm looking at other people that aren’t?...Good food should be a God given right, and it shouldn't be crappy food… we have to learn how to grow our own food."

"We need to find a way to work together, all of us to fix this broken system. No change is going to happen in isolation. We all just had that period of time so let's take those ideas and allow them to blossom and flourish in their communities and see if we can do some meaningful work and help people out."

"I work with families who need lots of things and I think the sometimes my staff, they will go, oh, we can just put this in there, we'll just give it to them..I said, you can't.... You have to really understand what they want. Sometimes they may need something, but they don't want you to give it to them. You have to really ask what they need because there is still agency in that. "

"My life experiences have taught me that there's this stigma and shame around being lower income…we shouldn't be divided by class, income, education or any of the things that create these divisions."

"Something that I hope happened is that the stigma that's been associated with people getting free food has been diminished just a little bit, that it's a little bit more normalized and that there's a greater awareness of just how many people are getting food assistance."

"When people are depressed the best way to heal is to eat healthy food. I was depressed as I'm sure like most of the people were depressed in that time so I was really curious to eat more healthy. The healthy food was kind of like a miracle at that time."

"I would like to see people in the inner city particularly black and brown people learning how to be more self sufficient growing and maintaining their own food sources. I would like them to learn how to eat a healthier diet. Also I’d like to see them to learn how to pickle and preserve."

"The Creamery now accepts SNAP benefits and so, being able to get whatever I need from the store, it's really amazing to have the benefits honored there…it’s an amazing thing."
