Alexandra is a lifelong resident of Hampshire County and a proud single parent to a teenage son. She’s been working with the Hampshire County Food Policy Council since 2022 as a community partner, Community Liaison and Storytelling Project Coordinator. Alexandra brings her lived expertise from her personal life as well as many years of work with diverse communities in human services, adult education and advocacy. She strongly believes that access to nutritious food is a basic human right. She hopes that this project will open up conversations about what our community needs, our strengths, and what is possible when we share power and voice, as we’ve done in this project and the Hampshire County Food Policy Council.
“It would be an amazing change for humanity if we had basic needs met. When we see people's basic needs met, it frees up energy for so many more things.”
“I would hope that future generations will see that we tried to make some changes at this time in the way that we live and, also the acknowledgment of how interconnected we are.”
“My life experiences have taught me about the stigma and shame many people have about being lower income. I think a lot of people have experienced through this tumultuous period worldwide that your situation could change at any moment. I believe we shouldn't be divided by race, class, income, education etc.. people need to meet more on a human level. That's something that I would really like to see more of and leaving stigma behind so people feel comfortable to talk about their experiences.”
