Jillian is a mother of two and resident of public housing in Northampton. She was part of the newly created Food Access Advisory Committee to help Grow Food Northampton deliver fresh food to low-income people safely during the pandemic. She has since become more involved in the community and enjoys growing fresh vegetables at her community garden plot. She also loves to feed extra greens to her pet bunnies.

“I’m still involved in almost all of the food resources that became available to me during the pandemic…I think something that, that I hope happened is that the stigma that's been associated with people getting free food [has] been diminished just a little bit, and that there's a greater awareness of just how many people are getting food assistance.”
“There’s a bigger problem with the federal funding and the foods that [food banks and local pantries] have the purchasing power to get for people…it can be very low-quality food or it can be very unappetizing food,..Seeing those very poor specific foods… the white label on the can that says meat or peas is just another reminder of how low in the socio-economic world we are…. Get people's input about what they actually want to eat."
