Some superheroes live on earth but many live in galaxies millions of light years away. For this reason, they are curious how human live in our planet. They want to know about our the kind of transportation we have on earth, the kids of jobs available, where we live and how we maintain the safety when there is traffic.
This session, we brought a surprise box where we took out objects one by one and the students had to guess the name of the object, its purpose and finally guess what topics we are going to discuss this trimester. Teachers showed various objects like a stethoscope, a sphygmomanometer, various vehicles, traffic signs and toys that were related to jobs.
Do you know what this is? What is this used for? Have you ever seen this? Do you know where can we find this? Do you know what is his / her occupation? Do you know where can we buy this? In the city or in the town?
After finding an answer for these questions, we did a brain storm activity about the vocabulary we had previously discussed and then we presented the four content blocks we will work on:
We introduce the traffic signals vocabulary through a slide presentation about the different signs that we can see in the cities and towns. We askes the students why the traffic signs are important in the cities and towns.
After this, students will manipulate the traffic signs, identify them and play a game of Memory. They create their own driver's license to use in a role play where they must interpret the traffic signs.
The activities conclude with a worksheet to reflect on all the new information.
We introduce the transportation vocabulary through flashcards. We ask the students what are the names of the transports and they have to classify them into different categories (city or town).
Then we watch a video about the vocabulary and we sing!
After this, students will do the first activity. They have to see a picture of a city and write the transports they identify.
At the end, they have to create their own book of transports.
The activities conclude with a review of the new vocabulary.
The students sing a song called "The jobs and uildings Song". They learned it and sing it. It is usefull for them since they can review the contents they have been learning before.
Also, they learn some steps for a coreography. After they know it, they song and dance together.
After that, they start to create the final product related to this project. They have to colour and to decorate two plans: one from a city and another one form a town.
The teacher gives them the flashcards and they play different games such as: memory cards, hide and seek...
Likewise, the teacher calls out the vocabuary related to jobs and the students have to run to get the flashcards. So the students listen attentively and focus on the topic.
Then, they thought about what they had done during the class.
A week before our exam, the teachers prepared review sessions to refresh our memories about everything that we have learned this trimester. We did some worksheets, played some jobs bingo games, guess the traffi
This year, we have the privilege to work alongside the Arts teacher to complete their Mini City/Town. Second Grade students were working hand in hand in their Arts class to construct several buildings and transportation while they created the traffic signals and jobs crafts in Projects classes. We hope that you enjoy the video!
