MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY

For our motivational session, we prepared 10 paper bags with different items inside. We called out some students and they had to describe the shape, texture and size of the item and their classmates must guess what the item is. Second, we showed them a clip about the evolution and inventions. Lastly we brainstormed about the topics for the trimester regarding simple machines, inventors and their inventions and the last about colors, shapes, textures and sizes.

INVENTORS AND THEIR INVENTIONS WORKSHOP PART 1

In this workshop, students learned about some prominent inventors and their famous inventions. They created a timeline and we also had an oral presentation about our assigned inventors. It was very interesting to know how inventions have evolved over time.

SIMPLE MACHINES

In this station, students learned about all 6 simple machines and their basic functions. It was difficult in the beginning to understand the concepts, but eventually they learned to appreciate how simple things such as pizza cutter, a pulley o wheels make our work and life easier. After the discussion, students created a craft related to the simple machines.

SHAPES AND TEXTURES WORKSHOP PART 1

In this station students learnt about sizes, shapes, colors, materials and textures. They were learning new vocabulary and phrases. After that they created sensory books on the new topic showing different sizes, shapes, textures and materials such as wood, plastic, paper, fabric, etc. This activity was fun and useful for remembering the vocabulary.

FINAL PRODUCT

Here are the final products of 2nd grade students. They created a simple machine museum and sensory books that they will give as present to preschool students. Let us take a look at all their masterpieces!
