Classifying Aquatic Biomes
Doñana National Park occupies a river delta between the cities Sevilla, Huelva and Cadiz in southern Spain. It is an important migration point and agricultural zone. I visited in July 2022.

Across the entire area of a watershed, the interaction between water and land varies and changes. Sometimes water flows quickly, and other times slowly. In some areas, the slope is so great that water flows, and in others depressions can accumulate standing water. These changing and varying conditions create challenges for organisms.
Episodic disruptions can, over long periods of time, establish stable aquatic ecosystems in various locations and zones within a watershed. Organisms adapted for the conditions in that particular habitat, with all its challenges, can then form a complex community.
