Analyzing Resource Distribution
Parque Natural Nacional Chingaza is an important source of freshwater for the city of Bogotá. The páramo and frailejóns condense, filter and store water that accumulates in massive reservoirs. This body of water is the Embalse de Chuza, which was constructed in 1985 by Yugoslavian and Mexican engineers to provide 250 million cubic meters of water, representing approximately 54% of Bogotá's water supply from reservoirs, to a growing population since the mid-20th century. The Embalse de Chuza can contain enough water to fill 100,000 olympic-sized swimming pools.
