This photo was taken on Bridges Island, near Ushuaia, Argentina and the southern end of the Andes Mountain Range.
I have traveled throughout nearly the entire span of the Andes Mountains. They have everything... páramos, rain shadows, volcanoes and thermal springs, earthquakes, fossils, glaciers, cloud forests, proximity to the ocean, and a rich pre-Columbian history. I am constantly fascinated by the landscape and environments, and in awe by the amount of time and energy Earth needed for these phenomena to be created.
Welcome to our unit on geology, the science that deals with the Earth's physical structure and substance, its history, and the processes that act on it. In this unit, become experts on explaining what is happening on Earth below your feet, no matter where you happen to be. You will build and apply your knowledge of geological features to develop models of the long-term processes occurring on the planet you call Home.
