Course # 88F02
Instructor: MeganHamilton@cusd.com
Grades: 9-12
Duration: Year Course
Course Description:
If you’d like working behind the scenes, Tech Theatre (STAGECRAFT) is for you! You’ll travel to classes at the Mercedes Edwards Theater, where you will build, paint and learn to crew the musical productions for all 5 CUSD high schools.
Students will learn to make the world of a play complete through scenery, costumes, lights, and sound. As a TECH THEATRE student, you’ll tackle such challenges as painting a wall to look like bricks or lighting a stage as if the sun is setting. The class will cover such topics as set design, lighting, sound, scene painting, and costume design, plus Fine Arts credit.
Students Who Succeed in This Course:
This class is perfect for students interested in increasing their knowledge of the backstage and behind the scenes design aspects of theatrical production, including scenic, costume, lighting and sound design. However, even if a student is not necessarily interested in theatre it would be great for anyone who is looking for a class that is hands on and project based that allows them to use their creativity. It is not a traditional classroom environment and students love that it provides them with the opportunity to be up on their feet, creating and working on new projects each time they come to the theatre! Not only are they learning new skills in constructing sets, painting techniques, lighting and sound design but also having a ton of fun working alongside their peers and the professional tech staff at the theatre! Students that are looking for a creative outlet and would like a new adventure would be a perfect fit for this class!
