Academic Honesty and Integrity:
Students are expected to maintain the highest degree of academic integrity and honesty. The honor code is a pact of trust between the school and student. Academic dishonesty prevents students from gaining the necessary skills needed to succeed, and demonstrates character inconsistent with the goals and values of our school and community.
Consequences:
Parents of a CMS student found engaged in academic dishonesty will be contacted by the teacher. The teacher will present the parent/guardian with the following decision:
The student will receive a zero (0) for the assignment or have the opportunity to make up the assignment for a maximum grade of seventy (70). Continued infractions will result in automatic consequences assigned by administration & no opportunity for make-up.
Academic dishonesty includes one or more (but is NOT limited) to the following:
Using AI, Chat GPT, or other electronic tools and passing as your own writing
Taking someone else’s assignment or portion of an assignment and submitting it as your own
Providing your work to other students to be copied
Submitting material written by someone else or rephrasing the ideas of another without giving the author’s name or source
Presenting the work of tutors, parents, siblings, or friends as your own
Submitting purchased papers as your own
Submitting papers from the Internet as your own
Supporting plagiarism by providing your work to others
Copying answers on assignments from other students’ work
Giving or receiving answers during tests or quizzes
Using any form of memory aid during tests or quizzes without the permission of the teacher
Accessing a test or quiz for the purpose of determining the questions in advance
Removing a test or quiz from the classroom (physically or through technology)
Taking credit for group work when you have not contributed
Using summaries\commentaries such as Spark Notes and CliffsNotes in place of reading the assigned materials
For severe cases of cheating or repeat offenses, students may be subject to, but not limited to the following: In-School-Suspension, Out-of-School Suspension, denial of eligibility of school awards or scholarships, loss of position for Student Council/class/club offices, loss of class credit, and/or recommendation for expulsion.
