ATHLETICS
The aim of our inter-school athletic program is to promote healthy competition, develop new relationships, improve playing skills and self-confidence, and create a strong sense of sportsmanship through a series of contests with neighboring schools.
To be eligible to participate in athletics, all students must be academically promoted from the previous grade. Additionally, a student must be passing all their classes at the end of first semester to be eligible for second semester participation. Coaches and administrators will monitor students' academic progress regularly and can suspend or remove a student from a team until they are in good academic standing.
Students must also have parent's permission and a release to participate; they must have an approved valid birth certificate on file at school; and they must have a physical examination by a doctor recorded on the SCHSL physical form. Students must have completed all components of a Planet High School account. CMS students may also participate on athletic teams at the high school under special circumstances.
All CMS and CHS athletics teams are subject to try-outs and there will be some students who will not make respective teams. Head coaches are solely responsible for holding fair try-outs and for choosing their teams. Their decisions will be supported by the school administration.
As representatives of our school, athletes are held to a standard of conduct. If a student receives a lunch detention or after school detention, the coach will determine if other consequences are necessary. In School Suspension and Out of School Suspension infractions may jeopardize a student's ability to participate in athletics through suspensions or dismissals from the team. Students in ISS or OSS are not allowed to participate in any practices or competitions on days serving suspension.
There are three sports seasons at CMS: Fall, Winter, and Spring. During the fall season, we offer 7th and 8th grade football, Cheerleading, Dance Team, and 7th and 8th grade volleyball. During the winter season, we offer Cheerleading, Dance Team, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls' basketball, and wrestling. During the spring season, we offer boys baseball, girls softball, girls and boys soccer, girls and boys lacrosse, and track.
Information regarding each respective sport will be shared by the head coach at appropriate times throughout the year.
