Electronic devices are defined as any telecommunications device, to include but not limited to cell phones, iPods, Kindle book readers, and any other device that is similar in nature. A student may possess an electronic device in school as long as the device remains OFF and in their lockers (if assigned) or in their book bag during the school day. Personal Earbuds (i.e. AirPods) should only be used with teacher permission. Text messaging, use of social media and phone calls during class is strictly forbidden.
Cell Phones & Electronic Device Discipline Policy:
The following steps will be taken for students who fail to comply with the electronic device policy:
1st Offense – Verbal warning, parent notification.
2nd Offense – Teacher confiscates the device, holds it in a secure location, and the student may pick it up from that teacher at the end of the day, enter a minor infraction in Simpldiscipline and notify the parent.
3rd Offense - Teacher confiscates the device and enters an Office Referral in Simpldiscipline. A parent must pick it up at the front office. Student and parent will sign a letter stating all electronic device privileges will be lost pending a fourth offense.
4th and Subsequent Offenses - The student will lose all electronic device privileges for the remainder of the year, and will receive consequences in the form of ISS or OSS. This could include mandatory, daily office holds of devices.
Administration reserves the right to add consequences to any offense depending on the nature of the violation. Students should NOT call/text/email their parents during the school day. All communication home should go through the front office.
Refusal to comply or disrespect to staff in connection with this policy will receive additional consequences that may include ISS, OSS, or recommendation for expulsion.
