“...the final year of the PYP, students, carry out an extended, in-depth, collaborative project known as the PYP exhibition.
This involves students working collaboratively to conduct an in-depth inquiry into real life issues or problems. Students collectively synthesise all of the essential elements of the PYP in ways that can be shared with the whole school community. It also provides teachers with a powerful and authentic process for assessing student understanding.
The exhibition represents a unique and significant opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the IB learner profile developed throughout their engagement with the PYP.
It also provides schools and students with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the transition of learners to the next phase of their education.”
THE PYP EXHIBITION
It is a celebration of our students’ knowledge and skills throughout their PYP experience. It is a culmination of a significant inquiry involving self-reflection, collaboration, inquiry, action and presentation to an audience. It is an opportunity for pupils to share their message with others (and even the world). The IB explains that the key purposes of the Exhibition are:
for students to engage in an in-depth, collaborative inquiry, to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate independence and responsibility for their own learning, to provide students with an opportunity to explore multiple perspectives, for students to synthesize and apply their learning of previous years and to reflect upon their journey
This year, the process did not start as we had planned at the beginning of 2020, but we adapted and found something that would work to start it all while we were out of school. However, all Exhibitions begin in a similar process: with a provocation that encourages thinking and asking questions. Students are guided to choose an area of interest and, when possible, are grouped with similar interests.
For many groups, action took the form of making a change in their world to influence something to happen for the better or to sup-port others to make change happen. Often that influence is through information and a sharing of knowledge with others. In the following pages, some of our groups will be sharing their information with the intention of changing how you think and what you will do. Please take an interest in their accomplishments and, where possible, help them to make the difference which they seek to make in the world.
