Hello everyone we are the Deforestation group
the Members of our group are Nathan,Havish,Aaryan,Tariq. Today we are presenting our exhibition to you.
We chose deforestation because, we have seen online how badly its affecting the environment. We want to take action and try help because, deforestation is harmful to the environment and has caused many animals to go extinct. It concerns us because deforestation is affecting the environment .Over 70% percent of the worlds forests have been cut down.
At first, we started with our key concepts. We started planning our 8 key concepts. Out of 8 key concept questions we chose the 3 of the most relevant and interesting questions.
OUR CHOSEN KEY CONCEPT QUESTIONS
Causation: reasons for deforestation?
Function: ways of preserving forests?
Perspective: different points of view on forests?
With the help of our key concepts, we started forming our central idea here is our CENTRAL IDEA:
line of inquiry 1
Agriculture is one of the major reasons for deforestation, because the human population is rapidly growing, which increases the demand for food. Hundreds of square miles are being cleared for ranching livestock animals. Cleared forest lands are used to cultivate land for crops like palm oil, coffee and cocoa.
Rainforest depletion is also due to palm oil. Palm oil is used to produce chocolate, pizza bread and cooking oil. These products are bought frequently, which causes the industries to manufacture more. This cycle won't stop repeating itself.
Logging Timber production
A huge quantity of rainforests have been cut down due to logging. The wood is used to produce furniture and construction . Globally furniture is frequently bought, which increases deforestation.
Urbanisation
Government action has a huge impact on the environment. As countries develop more, government action is taken. For all the improvements the government would need land to build cities, roads etc which causes deforestation.
SECONDARY SOURCE: Reasons for rainforest deforestation
Line of inquiry 2
To help the preservation of rainforests, People should stop eating processed food. A large quantity of processed food is produced by palm oil. People destroy large amounts of tropical rainforests for palm oil, because palm oil is used to produce products that are frequently bought.
Restore damaged ecosystems by planting trees on land where forests have been cut down.
Establish parks to protect the rainforest and the wildlife.
Consumption of coffee can have a negative effect on the world’s rainforests. The negative effect is that people destroy rainforests to make coffee plantations. Trees are still harvested to build guitars, furniture, and other products.
Products like toilet paper, paper towels, coffee filters, notebooks, printer paper, and others are created from rainforest trees. Paper products contribute directly to rainforest deforestation. Consume mostly fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains to save the rainforest. You can help save the world’s rainforests by making the right purchases, committing to some lifestyle changes,.
Consume mostly fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains to preserve the rainforest. Avoid products made of mahogany, rosewood, ebony, and other tropical hardwoods. Buying products that are made by indigenous peoples is a unique and effective way to protect rainforests and sustainable livelihoods

If Jair Bolsonaro stays president in Brazil the amazon rainforest will no longer exist, because he is fine with deforestation occurring. Bolsano has been told many times by the local people to stop this from happening otherwise they would lose the amazon rainforests. Bolsonaro didn’t care at all. With all the power he has, nobody can argue with him. Scientists suspect the rainforest is going through a vicious cycle due to deforestation and it is causing climate change ,floods ,droughts. Every year Bolsonaro asks for 1 billion US dollars to aid in reducing illegal deforestation in the Amazon forest. But the Amazon forest is still rapidly disappearing.
I believe deforestation is horrible. Deforestation is harmful and affects everyone and everything on the Earth in multiple ways. Deforestation affects our water cycle. It affects our climate changes and causes over 70% of animals and plants to lose their habitat. This issue also affects our human society.
Our government and society are too selfish to even think about the numerous downfalls of deforestation. Yes, deforestation is good because we can use the land to build more houses, communities, shopping centers, highways, interstates, etc. BUT while we're building all of these things and tearing down forests we're basically killing ourselves because forests supply us with food, shelter, medicine(s) and we're not even paying attention to what we're doing.
Deforestation is cruel to the animals and plants that need that land to survive and we're being cruel to ourselves by subtracting our resources.

What do indigenous people think?
Oh, there's plenty of bad things to do with logging! Everything has to do with logging! They're chopping down the trees that make up my home, my village's territory is being minimized, and thanks to the big loud machines, all our food has run away! We only have a few veggies for food now, and I don't know what we'll do when we have to leave this forest. Those loggers are the most hard-hearted people I've ever seen!
What do conservationists think?
Stop cutting down those trees right now! Don't you know that you're knowingly destroying our planet? Without our rainforests, we're dead, literally! The rainforests are the ones that give us our oxygen, don't you know that? And plus, what about the rare and endangered species of plants and animals that live in the rainforest? Are you just going to let them die out? I can't imagine what you're thinking
Benefits of deforestation
What do loggers think?
Logger
There's nothing wrong with deforestation! After all, it provides for plenty of jobs, and plus, who's to care if we chop down a few trees? We're only trimming the rainforest! And someone has to provide for my family! Those rich people are saying, 'Stop chopping down the trees, it's bad for the environment!' And what do they do? Nothing!

The first week of the exhibition provided many challenges to group 8, none more so than creating and
understanding the purpose of the Central Idea, Key Concepts and resulting Lines of Inquiry. Once Group 8
were through this process, they began to see how this early work allows for the establishment of a clear
road map for their inquiry into deforestation. With guidance and structure, the group were able to
undertake their research into deforestation and collectively produce a meaningful final product in line with
the objectives of the exhibition. The exhibition however, is not only about the final product; it is about the
journey and the experience of becoming independent inquirers. For those that embrace this experience it
will set them up well for secondary school and study in the MYP.
The Last Breath Of The Forest
Music Component
Smoke begins to rise from this once vibrant landscape
This is a scene of destruction, a catastrophe I wish I didn't have to witness, portrayal of complete doom
The Forest doesn't deserve this
Watch as the birds flee from their nests, unable to defend their eggs
They are now entitled to nothing, not even the trees harbor safety anymore
Once pure and untouched, now filthy
The vegetation is no more, far past the point of wilting
Desolate
Devoid of life
A sanctuary no more
Deforestation
Now you see there's nothing left
