LoI 1: The relationship between rainforests and our climate
LoI 1: The relationship between rainforests and our climate
We learned that there is a relationship between rainforest and our climate.
Firstly, we have found that some people have said that the rainforests are like the lungs of the planet. Rainforests can absorb carbon dioxide gas which is a greenhouse gas that can increase the world’s temperature. If there is too much carbon dioxide in the air, it can trap heat and increase the temperature of our air. If we want less carbon dioxide we need to have more forests and trees.
Additionally, we discovered that people are cutting down the rainforest and this can increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. We need to encourage people to protect the rainforest and plant more plants and trees. We should plant as many as we can.
Finally, we read that Scientists also found out that rainforests give off moisture that turns into clouds that give us rain. Without the forests we will have less rain and die.

Without rainforests, most medicines will not be available and if we keep the rainforest in a proper way we will discover more medicine. But, most importantly, the rainforests can help us to fight climate change. The more rainforests we have, the healthier our world will be and we will have less climate change. Without rainforests, our climate will become worse and have a negative impact on every living thing in our world.

- Stores water like a huge sponge
- Prevents soil erosion
- Rainforest provide plants for medical purposes (medicines)
- Variety of foods like chocolate (cacao)
- Variety of wood products including paper
- Helps stabilize and regulate the Earth’s climate
- Is a part of the water cycle
- Protects against flood, drought, and erosion
- Is home for many people and tribes
- Being a naturally beautiful and important ecosystem

LoI 3: Ways people can impact rainforests
Rainforests are important to our world for many reasons, and people can have both a negative and positive impact on rainforests.
Negatively, people can destroy rainforest habits due to deforestation. When people cut down trees the forest can no longer absorb carbon dioxide from the air and this increases greenhouse gases which can rise the temperature. Trees also give us oxygen. When trees get cut down we have more soil erosion. This means that water and rain can wash the soil away. Without the trees and plants in rainforests, there are less possible medicines for people. The rainforests are also home for many animals who would likely all die.
People pollute the rainforests with plastic that animals eat and can harm them. When people burn parts of the rainforest, it also creates toxic air pollution. This air pollution can hurt people and animals who breathe the toxic air.
People also hunt and poach animals in the rainforest. This can make some animals endangered or even extinct. Hunting too many animals can change food chains and impact many other animals.
Positively, there are things people can do that are good for rainforests. Collecting garbage around the rainforests and the rivers in them protects the animals that live there. If people use less fossil fuels and do not burn forests, there will be less air pollution that impacts us and the rainforests.
People can protect the animals from dangers like poaching and hunting.
People can plant new trees and protect the trees that are already in the rainforest. It is important to educate people about the importance of rainforests and we should not cut them down. There are many people who live in rainforests and it is their home. We need to protect them and learn more about their culture.

Survey on Climate and Rainforests
We did a survey and asked 32 people about their opinions about climate change and the rainforest. We found out that most people believe that fire has the greatest effect or impact on rainforests. However, what actually has the greatest impact on rainforests is cutting down trees for cattle farming.

It has been a pleasure working with and supporting Jean-Lucas and Ryan. From the beginning they were highly motivated and exuberant with their goals, possibly too much so. They worked hard to narrow their focus in on some core areas related to rainforest use, their importance to our world, and their impact on our climate. The two of them have a good understanding of these areas and were able to make connections to how the things we do can connect back to rainforest changes and the relationship to climate. While there were some difficulties getting feedback from officials they wrote letters to, this was out of their control. Overall, Jean-Lucas and Ryan did very well and should be proud of what they achieved. Well done!

During the last week if the exhibition we were very stressed because we didn't finish our work but our mentor Mr. Jeff at the last day of exhibition we didn't know if we did well on the website so we work and work and work at the end our work was done we just needed to upload our work on the website, on our opinion Mr .jeff is the best mentor the school will ever have that is our opinion.
