Welcome to our exhibition. We are Nevish, Jibran, Leo and Vahin and our Mentor is Mr. Jeff Hart.
Our topic is based on ‘Equal Access to Housing and Transportation’ which falls into the organising theme of ‘Access to Equal Opportunities’ . We decided to work on this theme as we are aware of the problems people are having just to afford a proper house and standard of living. The three of us (Nevish, Jibran and Vahin) chose to inquire about Social housing. On the other hand, Leo chose to look into ‘Equal access to transportation’. So, we found a way to merge them and thought of a strong connection between the two as they depend on each other. In our opinion, we think that a house can bring so much more than just a rooftop above your head but we think that a good transportation system coming along with it can increase the standard of living of people by linking their houses to essential services. As low-income earners don’t have enough revenue for a house, the government subsidies low-cost houses for them, and our group thinks that as transportation consists of the second largest expenditure after housing for an average household, it should also be catered for.
Our goal at the end of this PYP Exhibition is to convince everyone that the government should provide an affordable and accessible transportation system for everyone, as it can change people's lives!
We think that it is very important that every human being has the right to equal housing and transportation, do you think so too?
We are pleased to share our interest in this with you people. We hope that you will learn new information about this topic when going through our website!

For our Maths component, we have conducted a survey on the people’s opinion on Social Housing and Transportation. It was done on a linear scale. There were 10 questions and people were asked to choose between a scale of 1 (not agree)-5 (totallty agree). We obtained 120 responses and we built different pie charts from the responses we got..
1-Blue
2-Red
3-Yellow
4-Green
5-Orange
Please check our survey itself to understand the linear scale:
For the equation, we must round the number to the nearest ten. Then, put it over 100% and times it by 120 which is the whole number. It should look like this when working it out; ( anexample) 29/100 x 120=x
For the Action component, we did a report on the Social Housing beneficiaries to obtain their views on the social housing they have benefited from. Then we sent it to the Minister of Housing and Land Use so that he can have an overview of the good and bad opinions received. However, it is just the people’s feedback only and we have given our point of view.
Here is the report we sent to the Honorable Minister Louis Steven Obeegadoo, the minister of Housing and Land Use planning:
For the Art element, we did a mix of digital art with visual art. Here are they down below:
For the Music Component, we have rephrased the Song (Heal the World) by Michael Jackson. The song that we created is called Built on Wheels. You can view the lyrics down below:
At home, Jibran has a maid called Mrs. Prysila. She lives in Albion. She didn’t have enough money, so she asked the bureau Trust Fund. The government made some workers build it. She paid Rs.500 each month until she had enough money to pay Rs.1000 per month. It took 3-5 years which totaled Rs.30,000. She asked the government as she didn’t have enough finance. It took 2 weeks to build the house. It is a medium-small sized house out of bricks with 2 small rooms, one bathroom and a small kitchen for 2 people. The house came with no transportation. She first went to an office who sent her to bureau Trust Fund. If she didn’t have a piece of land for her she wouldn’t have gotten a house. Luckily her father had one. Before having a house, she lived with her father but then decided to have one of her own. The government had taken 5 months to confirm and then they sent her an application to say that she would get her house.
We have conducted a quiz with 4 random staffs at Clavis to see their general or common knowledge on Social Housing and transportation, but here it is so you can do it or just have a look at it:
Our mentor throughout this exhibition was Mr Jeff, the school's headmaster. He helped us organise everything and he guide, helped us in this exhibition and most importantly, organising our website page!
Mentor Notes
Nevish, Jibran, Leo and Vahin worked well together and each of them contributed in different ways that improved the entire group's accomplishments. Outside of our mentor meetings, the group showed good self-management skills and were highly motivated to do a good job. They took some risks reaching out to different people, including some in government, as part of their research and were able to collect useful information. I am pleased with the understandings each of the students developed about the reasons why some people need support with housing and transport, as well as the important connection between them. Well done!
