Introduction
Welcome to our virtual exhibition. We are Samayra, Mokshada and Zahra. Our group decided to inquire into Poverty. We carried out our investigation under the guidance of our mentor, Miss Amanda. Poverty interested us as a topic as we think that many people are not aware about how it affects the world. We are all sharing the planet and we must make sure that we use the resources responsibly. Poverty is conveyed to be about not having enough money. However, it is much more than just not having enough money. Our research led us to explore the reasons for poverty, its impacts on people’s lives and people’s responsibilities towards the poor. At the end of our inquiry , we chose to show our responsibility by donating to the less privileged. Finally, our central idea, key concepts and lines of inquiry can be found below.

For our action component we decided to give a presentation on reasons for poverty to the year 5 students. We wrote an informative text which we read to them. After that we answered any questions they had about Poverty. The presentation was very dynamic as they reacted to the information given to them and showed their interest by making connections and their curiosity about the topic by asking questions.
Ideally, as another action component, we wanted to actively contribute to helping the less privileged children through an organisation. Upon our visit to Caritas, we found out that some of the children are in need of resources needed for school. As we are school children too, we know how it feels not to have the adequate school materials to study. We have therefore decided to collect some stationery which we will donate at a later date, due to time constraint.
At the beginning, we thought that the process would be easy. However, we were wrong. We had to face a lot of challenges. Firstly, we had to plan our central idea and it took us about a week or so to finish it (it took more than a week). We also were planning to go on a virtual field trip but when we booked it the people NEVER responded. The first 3 weeks were not so bad but when it got to week 4, the tables have turned. (Lots of STRESS!) Soon, we realized that we had only 3(or 2) weeks left. This was where we started panicking. We arranged so many meetings to get our work done but it seemed as if we were not moving forward. In week 6 we had to do our work really fast and we managed to complete most of our work. We were able to go on a field trip at CARITAS, the organisation which works towards helping the less privileged. There, we met Mr. Brother Krishna. We interviewed him and got an adequate amount of information. This was quickly followed by our action component, our music component, our french component and lastly our math component. We were able to compile all of our information and our exhibiton project started to take shape. We also had to work as a team which was not always easy, as we had dofferent opinions. We learnt how to be open-minded and worked on our communication skills. Sometimes, we had to re-organise ourselves to get our work done on time. Finally, we found that we grew a lot during these past weeks and learned how to cope with challenges faced along the way. It was an enjoyable experience and we had fun.
It was a pleasure to mentor Group 16 who inquired into Poverty. Preparing students for the virtual exhibition during the Covid-19 pandemic has proved to be challenging due to the fact that students are only at school on some days of the week. Despite this constraint, the dedication of the students throughout the process was impressive. As a mentor, my job was mainly to guide them in their inquiry, help them find and connect with resources and eventually decide on the best ways to present their findings. The students showed much creativity when deciding how to present their findings across the lines of inquiry. Moreover, they led the planning, development as well as the presentation of their work. It could be noted that they worked collaboratively and that there was a team spirit. The students learnt the value of self-management and time management skills throughout their journey. By taking action at the end of the inquiry, learners showed their responsibility towards the community by taking smart and relevant action.
Overall, mentoring the group has been a rewarding experience.
