Hello everyone!
Welcome to our virtual exhibition. For our exhibition, we chose to work on Sports teams. Our group is composed of Lucca Marco, Rushil Ramrachheya and Lucas Levantard. Our mentor is Mrs Sandrine Esther. We chose to work on sports teams as this subject is of great interest to us since all three of us love sports. We particularly love sports because we think that sports can remedy a lot of stressful situations bringing emotional, physical and mental wellbeing.
Lines of Inquiry
When we started with our first line of inquiry, we had a small knowledge of what sports teams were. To have a better understanding of the subject, we firstly looked for the definition of a team. After doing the research on team sports, we clearly understood the difference between the terms "sports teams" and "team sports". We chose to focus on basketball as team sport to put on our informative poster since all three of us find basketball games interesting.
Line of Inquiry 2: Roles of team members
We met Mr. Bell in week 5. From the interview of Mr. Bell, we learned that a football team is a big team that stays together and plays together . A team needs to keep a good relationship like a family. In football we need to have good communication skills to be in a team. A team also needs to have respectful members who motivate each other.
Mr. Bell told us that football is discipline. A team in Mauritius can have 18-20 players. A team built with many players having the same objectives. In each team discipline and teamwork are important to have a successful outcome. It also has a coaching staff comprising of one head coach, one assistant coach and the medical staff and the team manager. It is a long process for a football team to be prepared for a match. To prepare for a match, it can take from 2 weeks to a month. To get prepared for a match, the players need to be physically and mentally fit. All the members of the staff shall share the common objective which is to win the game/tournament. The Mauritius F.A is responsible for football in Mauritius and its president is Mr. Samir Sobha.
First time we (Lucas Levantard, Rushil Ramrachheya and Lucca Marco) heard about Mr. Ivan we thought he was a Mauritian but fortunately he spoke in English. He gave us a lot of information about the good functioning of a basketball team. We met him on the 6th week (Monday 20th September 2021). Mr. Ivan was really descriptive, nice and patient . He gave very detailed answers to our questions and he did a long introduction on basketball.
Mr. Ivan couldn’t really answer our questions right for e.g. we ask “What is a basketball ball made out of ?”
He answered “Basketball is played 5v5”. That’s why we couldn’t really understand on what he said.
Mr. Ivan was really precise on basketball and he said he would come at school to do a basketball game.
Reflection on the outcome of the survey:
For our math component, we decided to carry out a survey with members of Clavis International Primary School staff and to represent the result of the survey on a bar graph and pie chart. The objective of the survey was to determine whether the members of the staff have a knowledge of team sports. We also aimed at collecting data on their preferred team sports amongst football, basketball and volleyball. We carried out the survey with 15 members of staff of different ages and genders so that the data collected was not biased. We came to the conclusion that most of the staff members practise sports and enjoy football. All the staff members knew what a team sport was. However most of them did not support any sports team. According to us, this is because of a lack of time due to busy schedules. The favorite team sport was football with a percentage of 53.3% and the least favorite team sport was basketball with only 6.7%. The data collected allowed us to have a clear indicator about the knowledge on team sport
For our third line of inquiry, we inquired into the evolution of basketball. We represented the information gathered on a timeline. We discovered that basketball was created on or about 1st December 1891 by Dr. James Naismith. Dr. Naismith, a physical instructor, came up with the idea of an indoor game with a ball and a hoop to keep his students physically fit during the cold winter season.
We recorded our process on a powerpoint. This allowed us to know where we were with our work.
The art component was a fun part of the exhibition because we could unleash our creativity.

Our action component consisted of two parts. One was carried out already and the second part will be done after the exhibition. The first part of our Action component consisted of a presentation with some year 5 students. Our objective was to make the students knowledgeable about the elements needed for a successful sports team. We also wanted to encourage them to develop their collaboration, team spirit, their relationship and all other skills relevant for a successful team.
For the second part of our action component, we will organize a football tournament with our friends from all the year 6 classes.
