A Note From Our Principal:

October 15, 2018

Dear Coastal Academy High School Parents,

Happy, happy Monday! I’m am so thrilled to write this letter to you from my office at Avenida de la Plata! The Stingray team has officially moved back "home" and our newly remodeled campus looks wonderful. Thank you once again for your patience and flexibility this school year.  I hope to see many of you at our Open House today from 4:00 p.m-5:30 p.m. This will be an ideal time to walk the building and say hello to your teachers.  We know some of our newer students have never actually been in the building so this will be quite exciting!

I very much enjoyed chatting with many of you at Pastries with the Principal last Thursday. Our virtual Google Hangout included a variety of topics including upcoming events, Summit Learning in action and a visit to Mrs. Pop's biology class.  I also touched on vaping and what parents need to know: 1) What is vaping? 2) What do the various vaping devices look like? 3) What questions should you be asking your student to help ensure they are making healthy, responsible decisions? Attached is a resource from the chat to support you in these valuable, important conversations with your student. As I mentioned on the chat, vaping is a national epidemic which our government is beginning to take very seriously and consider new federal law on. This said, we have many, many responsible, rule abiding CAH students.  As such, when a student makes an irresponsible decision and violates the Stingray Code of Conduct, I am typically very quickly informed and respond immediately.  I am thankful we have only had a small handful of vaping issues at CAH however, this is worth keeping on your radar and discussing with your student.

We know teachers and students are eager to connect with each other for follow up support outside of our 4 day programming. On Monday, October 22nd we will be launching our Monday Office Hours. On Mondays from 9:00-10:00, teachers will be in their classrooms for open office hours. Students wishing to receive support, ask a question, take a content assessment, etc. are welcome to visit their teacher during this time.  Our math tutor Mr. Van will also be available. From 10:00-11:00, teachers will be providing targeted workshops & intervention to specific groups of students.  The Friday prior to the next week's Office Hours, teachers will look at classroom data and identify students who may have challenges mastering a particular focus area or classroom lesson/project. They will reach out to both the student & parent to invite them to the Monday workshop.  I highly, highly encourage all invited students to attend the workshop. We will host Monday Office Hours all Mondays unless it's a holiday, break or communicated otherwise.

Finally, if your student plans on parking at Coastal Academy High School they must have an issued parking permit.  We have a very limited number of parking spaces available and parking permits are required.  Please see the front office for an application.  Parking permits are issued on a first come, first serve basis. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Shonta Jones at sjones@classicalacademy.com

I'm looking forward to a great week back "home" at CAH! Go Stingrays!

Sincerely,

Samantha Bartrom

Principal

Coastal Academy High School
