November 12th, 2018
Happy Monday CAH community,
Can you believe we are just a week shy of Thanksgiving Break? I know we all will appreciate the opportunity to slow down and connect with loved ones. I am looking forward to spending cherished time with my family in Orange County. We have so many fun traditions this time of year that I just adore! For Thanksgiving we watch the Macys Thanksgiving Parade and I enjoy contributing to our Thanksgiving feast in the form of several homemade dishes. However you spend your upcoming week off, I hope that you take time to disconnect from school & lean into this special time for love & gratitude.
As we adjust to being back in our building, one of the pieces we are continuing to draw our attention to is the use of Chromebooks and screen time. Technology most certainly plays a role in education however I'm sure we all agree we must continue to seek balance. More is not better. This said, we know some classes have made more use of Chromebooks than others. There are so many wonderful opportunities for students to collaborate via Google Drive and access tools they wouldn't otherwise have access to via technology. This said, there is also much value in learning experiences that do not involve the use of computers. As a team, please know, we are bringing our awareness and action to refining and improving our intentional use of Chromebooks.
Finally, I'm also aware parking continues to be a concern. I am in close contact with our Director of Operations to discuss additional opportunities for student & parent parking. I am grateful for your continued support and flexibility in this area.
I look forward to a wonderful week ahead! We will be culminating our week together on Friday at our ASB sponsored Attitude of Gratitude celebration. If I don't have the chance to connect with you in person, please know, all of us at CAH are so very grateful for your continued partnership and support. Happy early Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Samantha Bartrom
Principal

Team Sports Elective: Coastal Academy High School is offering elective credit called Team Sports Elective. It can be used for elective credit just for participating on an athletic team the entire season. For the winter season, we still have spots available for the following sports: Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer. Practices and home games are held at Army/Navy Academy 2605 Carlsbad Blvd in Carlsbad and begin at 6:00 PM. If interested see Mrs. Wyrick or Mr. Boruch for details or email CAHathletics@classicalacademy.com
Attitude of Gratitude: Join us for a memorable day of games, crafts, karaoke and more. There will be food trucks to purchase lunch and a free desserts bar. Click here for the adjusted bell schedule.
ASB "Food Fight Food Drive": This is your chance to gain some spirit points with your advisory. Each canned food item your students bring in will count as 1 spirit point. An ASB person will go around each day to collect the food your class has brought in and will add it to your spirit points. The food drive ends on Nov. 15, so start collecting!
Toy Drive Bonanza: Bring in new store bought toys to give to less fortunate children for the holidays. Earn spirit points for your advisory!
Staff Christmas Luncheon: Hi Stingray Community! With the holidays approaching, we are planning a staff luncheon to show our gratitude to our wonderful Stingray Team! We wanted to reach out and see if anyone in our community had any recommendations or connections for a restaurant to gather at? There will be roughly 40 of us. Please send your recommendation to Shonta Jones at sjones@classicalacademy.com. Thank you in advance!
Friday Bell Schedule: Just a reminder, our Friday Bell Schedule is slightly different. Click here to access our bell schedule. Class periods are shortened by 15 minutes to allow for Self Directed Learning (SDL) at the end of the day. During this time students check in with their mentor, take content assessments, work on Power/Additional/Challenge Focus Areas and finish classwork. This is an essential component of our programming and required for all students taking any Summit course.
