A Note From Our Principal:

February 4, 2019

Happy Monday CAH community,

It was a true pleasure kicking off the first day of second semester with some new faces!  Second semester brings a handful of transfer students in each grade level. We are thrilled to welcome these students, and their parent partners, to the Stingray family.

This week I want to take a moment to remind everyone of our school dress code. The purpose of our dress code is to support an educational atmosphere where a high academic standard is the focus. We encourage individual expression, however, students should be well groomed and neat, should wear clothes and shoes that fit properly, and should practice good hygiene. Modesty and safety should be the guiding principles when selecting school attire.

Unacceptable Attire: The following are not allowed:

Dress Code Consequences

First Incident: Warning, email or phone call to parent, and student may be required to wear a T-Shirt or Sweatpants to cover up the infraction for the remainder of the school day. (*return the borrowed clothes at the end of the day)

Second Incident: Student will be issued detention and will have to change clothes.

Third Incident: Student will be sent home for the day.

Thank you for your support and partnership in ensuring your student abides by our Code of Conduct. The complete policy can be read in our CAH Handbook available via this link. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me at sbartrom@classicalacademy.com or by phone at 760-317-9147.

Sincerely,

Samantha Bartrom

Principal

Coastal Academy High School

Counselor's Corner:

Hello Coastal High Families!

This week, our students will be watching a Ted Talk on the connection between social media and mental health. A recent study out of The University of Pittsburgh showed that the more time a youth spends on social media, the greater risk they'll have for developing symptoms of depression, negative body image, and eating disorders. There are so many positive aspects of social media, but when unregulated or when being accessed excessively, it can be detrimental to a youth, their development, and their mental health.  HERE is a link to the Ted Talk. We encourage you to watch it and open up the conversation about your student, their usage of social media, and their social/emotional wellness.

Sincerely,

JESSICA NOVELLO, MSW
