Happy Monday CAH community,
It was a true pleasure kicking off the first day of second semester with some new faces! Second semester brings a handful of transfer students in each grade level. We are thrilled to welcome these students, and their parent partners, to the Stingray family.
This week I want to take a moment to remind everyone of our school dress code. The purpose of our dress code is to support an educational atmosphere where a high academic standard is the focus. We encourage individual expression, however, students should be well groomed and neat, should wear clothes and shoes that fit properly, and should practice good hygiene. Modesty and safety should be the guiding principles when selecting school attire.
Unacceptable Attire: The following are not allowed:
Suggestive or revealing clothing.
Exposed midriffs- Tops must be long enough to be tucked in.
Halters, backless or strapless tops/dresses, tube top, spaghetti strap, or shirts pulled down below the shoulder.
Tank tops with less than a 2 finger width at the shoulder.
Any cleavage, low cut blouses, or see-through clothing of any kind.
Low cut pants that expose stomach or underwear when seated or standing.
Clothing that is excessively tight, baggy, dirty, ragged, ripped or cut, see-through, skimpy, or sloppy. Pants must be worn at or just below the waist, with a belt if necessary.
Exposed underwear or underwear worn as outerwear.
Pajamas, except on specially designated days.
Shorts with less than a 4" inseam.
Skirts and dresses that do not come to the end of the fingertips when arms are extended
Spiked belts, spiked collars, spiked cuffs, spiked earrings, spiked gauges, chains, or wallet chains of any length
Visible body piercing or tattoos, except for earrings. (No hoop type piercings anywhere on the face. No spike plugs)
Extreme hairstyles that distract from the learning environment (At the discretion of the Principal)
Bare feet while at school or school-sponsored activities. Slippers or steel-toed shoes.
Pictures, symbols, slogans, or words on clothing, school supplies, and/or hats related to the following: drugs, tobacco, alcohol, sex, violence, tagging, gang association, language demeaning to any person or group, or anything which potentially would incite students as to create a clear and present danger of substantial disruption of the orderly operation of the school.
The school administration may disallow other types of clothing that may jeopardize a safe and orderly environment for the students and school personnel.
First Incident: Warning, email or phone call to parent, and student may be required to wear a T-Shirt or Sweatpants to cover up the infraction for the remainder of the school day. (*return the borrowed clothes at the end of the day)
Second Incident: Student will be issued detention and will have to change clothes.
Third Incident: Student will be sent home for the day.
Thank you for your support and partnership in ensuring your student abides by our Code of Conduct. The complete policy can be read in our CAH Handbook available via this link. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me at sbartrom@classicalacademy.com or by phone at 760-317-9147.
Sincerely,
Samantha Bartrom

Two weeks ago, when we announced a new fee being imposed on our SMS traffic by Verizon, we had no idea what an incredible outpouring of support we would see from our 31 million educators, students, and parents. I cannot tell you how much all of us at Remind have appreciated your calls, posts, and messages.
Your voices have been heard. I’m thrilled to announce that, thanks entirely to you, we have heard from Verizon that they don’t have plans to change the fee structure applicable to Remind for SMS messaging. This means we will no longer be forced to shut off text notifications for Verizon Wireless customers using Remind. There will be no service disruptions for Verizon Wireless customers.
We know this experience has been frustrating for everyone. We’ve asked a lot from you: to publicly go to bat for us while juggling everything else you do as an educator. Thank you for your patience and support.

Hello Coastal High Families!
This week, our students will be watching a Ted Talk on the connection between social media and mental health. A recent study out of The University of Pittsburgh showed that the more time a youth spends on social media, the greater risk they'll have for developing symptoms of depression, negative body image, and eating disorders. There are so many positive aspects of social media, but when unregulated or when being accessed excessively, it can be detrimental to a youth, their development, and their mental health. HERE is a link to the Ted Talk. We encourage you to watch it and open up the conversation about your student, their usage of social media, and their social/emotional wellness.
Sincerely,
JESSICA NOVELLO, MSW
School Counselor
